Medal Update on Special Olympics Summer Games

Last week, the State of Michigan hosted the Special Olympics Summer Games, and the Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods team proudly sent several athletes to compete. Mason was especially excited to cheer on Stevie as he participated in the 100-meter dash and the shot put.

We are thrilled to share that Stevie had an outstanding performance, bringing home gold medals in both events! His hard work, determination, and dedication paid off in a big way. We could not be more proud of his accomplishments and the positive example he sets for others.

Kerby's 4th grade attended Weather Day at Comerica Park and went to the game afterward. They are appreciative of the STEAAM Foundation for the grant that allowed our students to go for free (several schools participated in this grant).

Board meetings aren’t designed for back-and-forth conversation — but this is. Join Dr. Bishop and our Central Office Leadership Team for a Town Hall listening session on responsible technology use in our classrooms. This is your chance to share ideas, ask questions, and be part of the conversation shaping our Strategic Plan objectives, and aligning classroom practice with that vision. Come for the dialogue, collaboration, and real-time engagement.

6 p.m., Tuesday, June 9
Brownell Multipurpose Room
Town Hall ends promptly at 6:55 p.m. so the Board meeting can begin on time

This is just the beginning of the conversation. We hope to see you there!

Pierce 7th Grade students were visited by Dr. Fischer, a neuroscientist with Wayne State University. He brought with him 3 different human brain examples, along with a sheep brain for comparison. Students were able to hold the specimens and ask questions of Dr. Fischer. This yearly tradition at Pierce has been going for over 20 years.

What an amazing gift!

There’s a kinship between two Grosse Pointe Woods families that is about to grow stronger. The Jaeger-Karallas and Stencels first met eight years ago when their oldest children were in the Young 5’s program at Mason Elementary School. Through their children’s friendship, the parents got to know each other well. On June 3, the families are scheduled to grow even closer as Lisa Jaeger has been approved to donate one of her kidneys to Paul Stencel.
