Clients are referred by Greenwich Department of Social Services and local social service agencies, schools and religious institutions.

Neighbor to Neighbor strengthens the Greenwich community by providing access to nutritious food, clothing, and other essentials in an atmosphere of kindness and respect. We provide free weekly food to over 1,100 Greenwich residents and free clothing and household items to 2,600 residents of Greenwich, Stamford and Port Chester (NY). Donations of food, clothing, household items and funds are always welcome. We receive no government funding and rely solely on private donations to run our programs.

Neighbor to Neighbor and Dogwood Books and Gifts are excited to present TODD TALKS TONY — a behind-the-scenes conversation with Greenwich native Todd Bartels, co-writer of the new film TONY. Inspired by Bourdain's bestselling memoir Kitchen Confidential, the film explores the experiences that launched his remarkable career and helped shape the candid, curious, boundary-pushing voice the world came to love.

Todd will share how he followed in Bourdain's footsteps in Provincetown, what it took to get the script greenlit, how the film came together, and behind-the-scenes stories from Hollywood.
In a fun twist, Todd will be interviewed by his mom, acclaimed stand-up comedian Jane Condon. Expect a lively, funny, and wonderfully candid conversation worthy of Bourdain himself.

As one of our staff members put it, “If you want something done, get the Junior League on it!”

Last week, members of the Junior League of Greenwich helped us sort clothing donations and tended our community garden, which is still going strong. 🌶️ They harvested garlic, peppers, herbs, tomatoes, and more produce that goes directly to our clients.

We are so grateful for our ongoing partnership and the many dedicated Junior League volunteers who help make our work possible.

This Feature Friday, we’re excited to spotlight the fabulous Maria Lopez, our Clothing & Essentials Room Support. Maria keeps our essentials stocked, our DoorDash deliveries running smoothly, and always greets our clients with a smile. Thank you, Maria, for making our days brighter!

🌟 Where are you from originally?
I am originally from Brooklyn. I lived in Brooklyn for about 5 years, then moved to Yonkers, New York, where I grew up. About 5 years ago, I moved to Mount Vernon, New York.

🌟 How long have you worked for Neighbor & what do you do?
I've worked at Neighbor for one year and eight months. As Clothing & Essentials Room Support, I maintain and organize household and personal care supplies, sort and distribute donations, and prepare essential-item orders for clients. I also pack and coordinate DoorDash orders, schedule pickups, and ensure client requests are accurately prepared and delivered.

🌟 Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
There are so many memories I cherish from volunteering and working here. It is difficult to just pick one. The most recent one was when I gifted a toy to one of our clients' daughters, and she was so grateful and proceeded to give me one of the biggest, warmest hugs!

🌟 What’s your favorite dish to cook? (Or favorite dish to eat?)
I mostly enjoy baking over cooking, but some of my favorite dishes to cook are seafood pasta and shrimp alfredo. My favorite dish to eat has to be Mexican food, either tacos dorados or chiles rellenos.

🌟 How long have you worked for Neighbor & what do you do?
I have worked for Neighbor for three years and three months. As the Executive Director, I collaborate with staff, our Board of Directors, community partners, and volunteers to advance our mission.

🌟 Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
Very early in my tenure, I greeted clients in a hallway. I overheard one of the individuals express to the other that “everyone here is so nice.” I immediately knew that I was in a good space and wanted to ensure it remained such.

🌟 What’s your favorite dish to cook? (Or favorite dish to eat?)
I am generally a pescatarian and like Mediterranean food and vegetarian dishes.

🌟 Do you have any pets, and if so, what are their names?
No, but I have a few plants that are more than 30 years old, which is older than our younger staff!

🌟 How long have you worked for Neighbor & what do you do?
I have worked at Neighbor since February 2025. As Public Affairs Manager, I represent the organization in the broader community, building relationships with elected officials, government agencies, nonprofit partners, civic organizations, and other stakeholders to advance our mission and raise awareness of food insecurity.

🌟 Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
Launching Neighbor to Neighbor's inaugural summer internship program stands out as a highlight of my time here. Watching our students grow into confident, capable, and well-rounded young leaders -- through hands-on work and partner-led sessions on personal finance, health and nutrition, and networking -- has been incredibly rewarding.

🌟 What’s your favorite dish to cook? (Or favorite dish to eat?)
South Indian cuisine is my favorite to make and to eat. Dosa in particular is my favorite dish because of the perfect balance of crispy wrap with soft spiced potatoes, it's a fleeting combination of texture and comfort, best eaten right when it's made.

🌟Tell us about yourself. What do you do for fun?
I spend as much time as I can outside, walking, hiking, swimming, and biking with friends and family. I especially love the mountains and beaches. When not at Neighbor, I run an LLC which supports students through the college application process. I’m also learning to knit, which is fun and very frustrating at times, as there are a lot of failures that come with learning this craft!

🌟How long have you been volunteering, and why Neighbor?
I’ve been volunteering since 2020. I started with one of my sons when COVID broke out; hearing about all the issues many people were having with food accessibility pushed me to help out. We started at the Arch Street Teen Center, masked, shopping for clients, and helping load the trucks that went to the neighborhoods to deliver the food. I was so impressed with how Neighbor ran like a well-oiled machine and have been volunteering ever since.

🌟What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I love meeting and talking with the clients who come in to shop; we often discuss food and share recipe ideas, and many are so excited to talk about how they prep their food and what recipes they bring with them from their home countries. Most importantly, I have always been impressed with the way all clients are treated with dignity and care as they walk through the door.

🌟Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
I love Thanksgiving time at Neighbor. Clients are so excited to receive their turkey and all the fixings and so enjoy the American tradition. And the holiday always brings up conversations at the checkout about other countries’ traditions that people love to share.

🌟 Where are you from originally?
I am from amazing Flushing, Queens. Go Mets!

🌟 How long have you worked for Neighbor & what do you do?
I have been at Neighbor for 8 years. I’m the Operations Manager, so I handle the logistics of pickups and drop-offs and go on shopping runs to make sure we keep the pantry full. I also coordinate our adult volunteers and organize pack-a-thons and food drives.

🌟 Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
One of my favorite memories was my first backpack distribution: getting all the backpacks together, different groups assembling school supplies, and seeing how much time, teamwork, and effort went into filling each one. But nothing compared to the day the kids came with their parents to pick up their backpacks, with smiles on their faces as they walked away so excited to start a new school year. That experience made me feel so proud to work at Neighbor and reminded me that all the hard work we put in behind the scenes has a real impact on families and children in our community.

🌟 What’s your favorite dish to cook? (Or favorite dish to eat?)
I don’t think I have one favorite dish to cook. I love the challenge of trying new recipes and making different dishes. I’ll see something that looks interesting and think, “I want to try making that!” The good thing is, my wife cleans up after I make the mess! 😂
