Nearly 30 years ago a cadre of dedicated volunteers saw a need in Port Chester and began serving the hungry. Initially they served only soup and sandwiches a few evenings a week. Meals led to grocery bags, then to a food pantry that now distributes groceries to over 600 households each month. The Open Closet was launched in 2006 to help families by distributing gently-used clothing. Social service

counseling for women and children facing eviction also started in 2006. To address the growing needs of our community, we incorporated Caritas of Port Chester as a 501(c)3 organization in 2012. Bringing the Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry, Open Closet, Emergency Services and ESL Classes together allows us access to additional grants, foundation money and other sources of revenue critical to our mission. Caritas of Port Chester succeeds because of the vital work of our volunteers and generous donors. We continue to look for new ways to provide additional services to our community.
