Labor Day was established to recognize the social and economic achievements of American workers. The millions of men and women who get up every day, go to work, earn a paycheck, and contribute to the communities around them.
Which brings us to the individuals pictured below.
On a holiday specifically dedicated to celebrating people who work for what they have, we thought the timing was appropriate to recognize a few people who allegedly chose a different approach.
These seven individuals have all recently been arrested by the Flint Township Police Department through our ongoing Shoplifting Task Force efforts. None of these pictured are first-time offenders. All have prior criminal histories, several have previously served time in prison, and some are currently out on bond with criminal cases pending. Their continued activity is exactly why our Shoplifting Task Force places an emphasis on identifying and apprehending repeat offenders.
Retail theft hurts the businesses that make up our commercial district, threatens local jobs, and ultimately passes costs along to paying customers. That's why our Shoplifting Task Force continues to identify offenders, recover stolen merchandise, and focus enforcement efforts on those who repeatedly target our local businesses.
So this weekend, we celebrate the workers. The people who punch the clock, put in the hours, earn their money, and pay for the things they take home.
As for our pictured guests, perhaps Labor Day is as good a time as any to consider giving the whole labor thing a try.
