Enjoy the sunshine, but don’t forget to protect your skin.

Spending time outdoors is one of the best parts of summer, but too much sun exposure can increase your risk of skin damage and skin cancer. Cover up with protective clothing, apply sunscreen, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and seek shade when the sun is strongest.

A few simple habits can help keep your skin healthy all summer long.

Know the air before you head outside.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a simple tool that measures air quality and groups it into six categories, each with different potential health impacts. Checking the AQI can help you decide when it’s safe to be active outdoors and when it’s better to limit exposure, especially for children, older adults, and those with heart or lung conditions.

A quick look at the AQI can help you make informed choices and breathe a little easier.

Step smart. Stay safe.

Before heading into the woods, take a few simple precautions to reduce your risk of a snake bite. Stay on open trails, use a walking stick in brushy areas, avoid stepping or reaching into places you can’t clearly see, and wear protective clothing like over the ankle boots, long socks, and loose fitting pants.

If you encounter a western rattlesnake, stay calm, give it plenty of space, and slowly move away. Never attempt to capture or handle a snake.

Connection starts with understanding.

Addiction does not define a person's worth or erase who they are. When we choose compassion over judgment, we create opportunities for conversation, support, and recovery. By seeing the person before the addiction, we can help build a stronger, more caring community for everyone.
