Pumpkin head photoshoot trend: library edition. 🎃

The Denmark Library staff took the phrase “turn into a pumpkin” a little too literally! They had a hauntingly good time frolicking through the outdoor spaces, making moves on the chessboard, and getting some work done in festive fashion.

Every fall, the staff at Hampton Park Library takes pumpkin decorating to a whole new level. These aren’t your average jack-o’-lanterns—they’re full 3D storybook scenes. From “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” to the iconic striped mountain from “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”, you’re bound to spot a favorite book character or literary reference.

National Friends of Libraries Week is the perfect moment to look at all the incredible impact the FCPL Friends & Advocates have made this year!

They started strong in the early spring by supporting our annual Forsyth Reads Together event featuring award-winning author Liz Moore. Their passion for literacy went even further by funding our first-ever children’s author event with Brandon Mull—a successful afternoon that brought together multiple generations of fans.

Our Friends support sustainability by selling affordable used books and media at all five FCPL locations. They are currently on target to divert 67,200 books from Forsyth County landfills in 2026 by sending unsellable titles to Better World Books.

Thanks to their hard work, the Friends broke records by raising over $100,000 for FCPL in a single fiscal year. Their commitment to FCPL shines through in the dedication of their team, with several volunteers celebrating 5- and 10-year service milestones.

We are endlessly grateful for the generous spirit of the FCPL Friends and Advocates, and we cannot wait to see all the wonderful ways they continue to enrich our community!

As we continue to celebrate National Friends of Libraries Week, we’re honoring our amazing Friends and the special stories that inspire them to support FCPL. 📚✨

Originally from Cuba, Maria developed a love for reading through childhood trips to the library in Havana. In high school, the library became her second home—a safe, welcoming place where she spent hours among the shelves. She fondly remembers how welcoming the librarians made her feel and how vital the library was to her at that age.

Even though it has been years since she was that little girl coming to the library, her love and passion for it have not dimmed. Volunteering at the Friends Bookstore gives her a meaningful way to stay involved and connect with our community. As a former teacher, she firmly believes that reading makes a huge difference in a child's life and holds a special place in her heart for young readers. We are incredibly grateful for our Friend Maria and the joy she brings every day!

Happy National Friends of Libraries Week! 💗

The FCPL Friends & Advocates is an all-volunteer organization that serves the Forsyth County community by accepting and selling gently used books and media across all our locations, seven days a week!

Our Friends enrich our programming by helping us bring bestselling authors to Forsyth County, hire professional performers, and provide incentives that boost reading challenge participation across all ages. They go the extra mile by serving complimentary refreshments at author events, treating our staff to lunch during National Library Week, and so much more.

We are so grateful for their dedication and support, and we look forward to celebrating them all week long!

You can support the Friends by becoming a member, shopping at a Friends Bookstore, donating your gently used books and media, or joining as a volunteer.
