🏖️ Small scoops, big discoveries at MRC Preschool!

How much will fit? What happens if we add more? At the sand table, playful experiments introduce early math concepts like volume and capacity. As children fill, empty, and compare containers, they explore “more,” “less,” “full,” and “empty”—building a foundation for measurement through hands-on discovery.

Sand play adds rich sensory learning, too. Exploring its texture and movement encourages curiosity, while scooping and pouring give little hands practice with coordination and control. Repeated movements can also offer a soothing way to slow down and focus. So many levels of learning in one simple activity! 💛

🎒📚 Backpacks on, listening ears ready

Getting ready to leave preschool is a transition—and transitions are important learning moments, too. With backpacks on, our preschoolers gather on the rug to listen as a teacher reads a story, creating a calm and familiar ritual between a busy day of learning and the trip home.

Predictable routines like this help children understand what comes next, practice patience, manage their bodies and attention, and move from one activity to another with greater confidence. Instead of rushing through goodbye time, the class gets a peaceful moment to settle, listen, and prepare together.

Story time adds even more learning. Hearing books read aloud helps children build vocabulary, strengthen listening and comprehension, recognize how stories work, and develop the early literacy skills that prepare them to become readers themselves.

At MRC Preschool, even the final minutes of the day are full of meaningful learning, connection, and care. 💛

🍕 Make a Ripple in your community with pizza!

Ripple Pizza & Ice Cream () is making a splash in our community with Community Family Nights, and TONIGHT (October 19th) and next Monday, October 26th will benefit Mountain Resource Center:

Come from 6-8 p.m., get your pizza, salad, and drink, and don’t forget some famous soft-serve ice cream for dessert. Stay for music, entertainment, and community connectedness. Bring the whole family and pay what you can (in a discreet envelope).

👀 What’s missing? Memory skills in action at MRC Preschool

Our amazing substitute teacher Kim recently invited our preschoolers to put their observation and memory skills to the test with a playful “What’s Missing?” activity.

Kim began by placing a collection of items on a tray and taking time to look them over with the children. Then came the challenge: she covered the tray, peeked underneath where no one else could see, and quietly removed a few items. When the tray was revealed again, the children worked together to remember what had disappeared.

This simple game creates so many levels of learning. Children practice focus, visual memory, vocabulary, critical thinking, turn-taking, and teamwork as they study the objects, describe what they notice, and share their guesses. They also build confidence as they test their ideas and discover that careful observation can help them solve a mystery.

Thank you, Kim, for bringing curiosity, connection, and plenty of fun to the classroom. At MRC Preschool, joyful moments like these help young minds grow—one missing object at a time. 💛
