Located in the heart of the EIU campus, Booth Library serves students, faculty, and staff of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois.

Visitors welcome; Illinois residents can obtain a library card. Booth Library, the general library of Eastern Illinois University, is named in honor of Miss Mary Josephine Booth, who served as head librarian at Eastern from 1904 to 1945. ALL THE WAY DOWN is an existential folk-horror film by Collin Davis and Matthew Valdez-Litwiller. Parts of this film took place on the Eastern Illinois University campus, Booth Library, Doudna, and the Marshall, Illinois area.

This film's world premier is this Saturday, October 30th at the Austin Film Festival! We are thrilled for the cast and crew and wish them the best of luck!

Do you ever wonder what EIU was like when it was newly established? “The Past that Shaped our Present: Artifacts and Alumni from Eastern Illinois University’s Earliest Years,” an exhibit curated by junior history major Haley Strempel, is now available to view on the 3000 level of Booth Library.

The exhibit explores what life was like at EIU when it was first founded, as well as the beginnings of student traditions and experiences that still remain today. The exhibit features 2 diplomas from the early 1900s, as well as EIU’s Senior Scrapbook from 1914. Short descriptions of the artifacts discuss Eastern’s time as a State Normal School and even the lives of three EIU Alumni who attended in its earliest years.

Booth Library is excited to feature a Postcolonial Literature Display, developed and curated by Abbas Khan, an EIU English graduate student and Writing Center Graduate Assistant, in collaboration with Steve Brantley, Head of Research and Engagement at Booth Library.

Explore literary works on colonialism, identity, resistance, decolonization, and colonial and decolonial ecologies.

Location: Booth Library, 3rd Floor, first table in front of the Writing Center. On display through November 30, 2026.

Are you registered to vote? 🗳

November 3, 2026 is Election Day for the United States Midterms, which will determine which political party will hold majority in each chamber of Congress. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of seats in the Senate are up for election.

Most states, including Illinois, are holding gubernatorial elections. This election is for governor and will also take place on November 3rd.

The Office of Leadership and Engagement has curated a book display on the 3rd floor of Booth Library to inform our community about the process and importance of exercising our right to vote.
