"CHARLESTON — Throughout the area, hunters and land owners have come across deer carcasses fallen to what many are calling “Blue Tongue disease.”"

"However the most recent virus outbreak is not “Blue Tongue” it’s actually epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) — an acute, infectious, often fatal viral disease, and this summer, the mud flats surrounding low rivers, lakes and ponds have been breeding grounds to easily spread it to the local white-tail deer, said Bryan Eubanks, district wild life biologist for the state Department of Natural Resources. While EHD is related to “Blue Tongue disease,” it is not the same, he ensured."

Photo: "There won’t be a hunting season for Duane Klein and his son Jaxsen look at the body of a dead white tail deer on their land in rural Clinton County, Mich., on Oct. 12. Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources reported that the outbreak of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) has produced more than 8,500 confirmed deer deaths in Michigan this year."

After habitat loss and global warming, invasive species are probably the third leading cause of global extinctions. I didn't see a whole lot of people doing something about this, so I decided to use my skills as a hunter, teacher and writer to fight invasive species.
