Winter in Valley County is beautiful, but it comes with real cold, heavy snow, and mountain roads that can change fast. A little preparation goes a long way. Winterize your vehicle with good traction tires, and keep an emergency kit on board with blankets, water, snacks, a flashlight, a phone charger, and a shovel. Before you head out, check road conditions on Idaho 511 and local weather cams and let someone know your plans.

At home, protect your pipes by insulating exposed lines and letting faucets drip during deep freezes. Keep furnace vents, dryer vents, and exhaust pipes clear of snow, and test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Stock up on essentials in case storms keep you home for a few days, bring pets indoors, and check in on neighbors who may need a hand. Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the upcoming season.

Have you heard about Idaho’s “3% cap” on property taxes? Here’s what it means for you.

Each taxing district (the county, cities, schools, fire districts, and others) can grow the property tax revenue it collects by up to 3% a year without voter approval, plus an allowance for new construction and annexation. That’s a cap on each district’s budget, not on your individual bill or your home’s assessed value. Your bill can still go up or down depending on your property’s value, exemptions, and voter-approved measures like bonds and levies.

Questions? Call the Treasurer’s Office at (208) 382-7110.

Your property tax bill is on its way next month! Here’s what to expect.

Valley County mails one combined bill for all the taxing districts where your property is located. At the top you’ll find your parcel number, property description, and tax code area. Further down, you’ll see how your total is divided among districts like the county, your school district, and your fire district.

Bills are mailed by the fourth Monday in November, and payment is due December 20. Want your bill sooner? Sign up for email notifications through our online portal. If your mortgage company pays your taxes, check with your lender before you pay.
