Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

Fire danger is high, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Fires can start almost immediately and easily from all causes. Fires can spread rapidly and intensify quickly. Spot fires can be a constant danger.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

We would like to take a second to brag on the citizens we serve. Not one call came out during the time the county had the EOC (Emergency Operation Center) in operation for the Casar Fire district!! You guys are awesome, making excellent choices and keeping safety as top priority, we can’t say that enough. We had a full crew the whole time from Friday night until Monday afternoon. We dodged a storm that had potential to cause some serious damage for us and we are thankful.

Thank you everyone for working together and staying safe! Thanks to our crew for your dedication to each other and the community!! Last but not least, a special thanks to NCDOT for their efforts and commitment to clearing our roads around the clock.

We do have the potential for another round coming up this weekend it appears, you may want to go ahead and replenish your supplies while there is time. From this far out, it looks like if we do get anything it will be an all snow event. Fingers crossed and maybe a toe or two.

Stay tuned and remain vigilant, your crew at CVFD!

Good morning Casar!

Roads, trees, power lines, etc. are all ice coated and there's still potential for a significant amount of additional freezing rain followed by bitter cold in the days to come.

Please, if you do not have to be out, don't.

As always though, if needed, we will be there!
Stay safe and God bless!
