Today we had the privilege of celebrating our incredible community at Burns Day! We may be our own little corner of the 307, but there’s no place we’d rather call home. Around here, we work hard, play hard, and take pride in supporting one another.

We kicked off the day by participating in the parade, then enjoyed spending time taking in all the great events and activities throughout town. This afternoon, we saddled up and hosted the Kids’ Inflatable Barnyard Pole Bending, and what a blast it was! Seeing all the smiles, laughter, and community spirit made for an unforgettable day.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organize Burns Day and to our community for allowing us to be a part of it. We are proud to represent Burns FFA and showcase our Burns pride!

* This is always a fun event and won’t take up your entire day!

These events are a great way to support our community, have some fun, and show everyone what Burns FFA is all about. Let’s show up, show out, and make a great impression!

Final day in Ireland! 🇮🇪

Today we explored the beautiful city of Galway, taking in the sights, experiencing the culture, and enjoying one final opportunity to pick up souvenirs and gifts before heading to our hotel.

Before wrapping up our journey, we also had the opportunity to tour Newbridge Silverware. Members learned about the history, craftsmanship, and production behind one of Ireland’s most recognizable brands, making for a unique and memorable final educational stop.

To top off an incredible trip, we arrived at an amazing hotel that featured a pool—so of course we had to take full advantage of it! It was the perfect way to relax and reflect on everything we have experienced over the past several days.

From learning about Irish agriculture and rural communities to exploring historic sites, meeting local producers, touring businesses, and experiencing a new culture, this trip has been filled with unforgettable moments. More importantly, our members have gained knowledge, perspectives, friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime.

As we prepare for an early flight home tomorrow, we are incredibly grateful for the opportunities, experiences, and hospitality we have enjoyed throughout Ireland.

The Green Isle has treated us well. Next stop: home! ✈️🇺🇸🍀

☘️ Day 7 of the Burns FFA Ireland Takeover! ☘️

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Ireland, it’s that the weather can change every five minutes! Today brought rain, sunshine, more rain, and plenty of wind, but our group embraced it all and continued making memories across the Emerald Isle.

The day began with a fascinating tour of an old Irish mine, where we learned about the history, hard work, and ingenuity that helped shape local communities for generations.

Next, we experienced one of Ireland’s most iconic agricultural traditions with an Irish sheepdog demonstration. Watching the dogs work with such intelligence, precision, and partnership with their handlers was truly impressive and gave us a new appreciation for the role working dogs play in livestock management.

We also visited the breathtaking Kylemore Abbey. Nestled among the mountains and lakes of western Ireland, the scenery was absolutely stunning and quickly became one of the highlights of the trip.

Our final stop was an authentic oyster farm, where we learned firsthand how oysters are grown, harvested, and brought from the sea to the table. Of course, no Burns FFA experience would be complete without a little friendly competition! Students put their skills to the test to see who had what it takes to become Ireland’s next great oyster farmer. While the competition was fierce, there were plenty of laughs along the way.

From mining and agriculture to aquaculture and Irish history, today was another incredible example of learning by doing and experiencing a different way of life.

☘️ Day 6 of the Burns FFA Ireland Takeover! ☘️

Today was a day full of adventure, flexibility, and making memories that we’ll be talking about for years to come.

We set out early this morning for Galway, crossing the Irish countryside with plans to visit the famous Cliffs of Moher. As every traveler knows, sometimes things don’t go exactly according to plan—and today our bus decided it needed a break! A mechanical issue sprung a leak, and we found ourselves waiting for a replacement coach to continue our journey.

Thankfully, it happened at the perfect time. After navigating some of Ireland’s narrow, winding roads, a few of us plains kids were feeling the effects of the twists and turns! The unexpected stop gave everyone a chance to grab a bite to eat, stretch their legs, and recharge before continuing the adventure.

When we finally arrived at the Cliffs of Moher, the wait was absolutely worth it. The views were breathtaking, and it’s hard to put into words the beauty of standing atop one of Ireland’s most iconic natural landmarks.

We wrapped up the day by settling into our college campus dorms in Galway, where everyone is resting up and getting ready for another day of learning, exploration, and adventure tomorrow.

Travel isn’t always about perfect plans—sometimes it’s about adapting, staying positive, and making the most of every experience. Today our students did exactly that.

☘️ Day 5 of the Burns FFA Ireland Takeover☘️

Today was all about getting our hands dirty and experiencing Irish agriculture firsthand!

We loaded up and headed to the Earle Family Farm, where we learned about the annual management of a mixed-breed Irish sheep flock. From breeding and nutrition to pasture management and animal care, students gained valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities of sheep production in Ireland.

Next, we visited Redmond Farm, a diversified operation where Aberdeen Angus cattle are purchased as calves and raised on pasture. We also learned how the farm produces vegetables that, along with their beef, are supplied directly to local hotel restaurants. It was a great example of how farmers can create value through local food systems and strong community partnerships.

The day concluded with the perfect farm-to-table experience at Ashdown Park Hotel. After spending the day learning where food comes from, students enjoyed seeing how locally raised products make their way from Irish farms to restaurant tables. It was a powerful reminder of the connection between producers, businesses, and consumers.

Days like today are what agricultural education is all about—connecting classroom concepts to real-world experiences and learning directly from the people who make agriculture happen every day.

☘️ Day 4 of the Burns FFA Ireland Takeover! ☘️

Today was all about production agriculture, and our members had the opportunity to see firsthand how Irish farm families are producing food while embracing innovation, sustainability, and generations of tradition.

Our first stop was The Apple Farm, where the Traas family has been growing apples and other fruit since 1968. Students toured the orchards and learned about the management practices used to produce high-quality apples, pears, plums, sweet cherries, strawberries, and raspberries. We also explored how the farm adds value to its products through the production and marketing of apple juices and cider vinegar sold directly on-site.

Next, we visited the Crowley Family Farm, a family-owned operation that combines dairy and crop production. Students learned about Ireland’s pasture-based dairy system and how grass-fed cows produce high-quality milk while maintaining environmentally friendly farming practices.

One of the biggest takeaways from today was seeing how agriculture may look different around the world, but farmers everywhere share the same goals: caring for the land, producing quality food, and creating opportunities for future generations.

From orchards to dairy barns, from potatoes to pasture management, today was a reminder that agriculture truly is a global industry.

☘️ Ireland Day 3 – From Thoroughbreds to Castles! ☘️

Today, Burns FFA traded the city streets for Ireland’s rich agricultural heritage and historic landmarks.

Our first stop was the renowned Irish National Stud in County Kildare, where we learned about Ireland’s world-famous thoroughbred horse industry and the care, management, and breeding practices that have made Irish horses respected around the globe.

From there, we stepped back in time with a visit to the beautiful Kilkenny Castle and explored the charming streets of Kilkenny. The history, architecture, and culture of this medieval town made for an unforgettable experience.

One of the greatest parts of this trip is seeing firsthand how agriculture, history, and culture are woven together throughout Ireland. Every day brings new opportunities to learn and grow.

Tomorrow, we dive even deeper into Irish agriculture with visits to a fruit and vegetable farm and a family-owned dairy and potato farm. We can’t wait to learn how Irish producers are feeding their communities while carrying on generations of farming traditions.
