October 30th is National Weatherization Day and Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC) will be hosting an event celebrating the Weatherization Assistance Program. There is even more reason to commemorate this day as this is the 50th year for the Weatherization Assistance Program.
The Weatherization Assistance Program was signed into law 50 years ago by President Gerald Ford. Since then the Weatherization Assistance Program has been an incredibly successful federal, state and local partnership that serves every county in the U.S. and five U.S. territories. Weatherization Assistance Program services have been provided to 7.2 million households since its inception.
The Weatherization Assistance Program in Delaware County is administered by the Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC). The program provides quality energy education and home conservation modifications. Community Action Agency also provides Weatherization services in Lebanon, Chester, Montgomery, Dauphin, Cumberland and Lancaster Counties. All services are free of charge.
CAADC will be hosting an open-house on October 30th from 9:00 a.m. β 11:00 a.m. at its office located at 1414 Meetinghouse Road in Boothwyn, PA 19061. Local and state elected officials, community leaders, partner agencies, contractors and supporters are invited to join CAADC in commemorating 50 years of services and success. Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the Weatherization Assistance Program, its community impact, and the important role it continues to play in helping households achieve safe, healthy and energy-efficient homes. The event will include a 50th Anniversary recognition, client success stories, Weatherization Assistance Program information and eligibility, a Weatherization workshop and refreshments.
Weatherization continues to provide a cost-effective permanent solution for reducing the heavy energy burden on low-income Americans. Weatherization can help low-income families save an average of 20% per year in energy costs. The Weatherization Assistance Program serves single family, multifamily and manufactured housing. Every dollar invested in the program returns $4.50 to society in energy, health and safety benefits.
Edward T. Coleman, Chief Executive Officer of CAADC, stated, βWe are proud to provide this program to residents of Delaware County and the six other counties that Community Action Agency serves. This program makes a real tangible difference immediately to those already on a strained budget and continues to help them in the future.β
Funding for this program is provided by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. Income guidelines do apply. To apply for the Weatherization Program or for additional information, residents can contact CAADC at (610) 521-8770.
