As we enter June we begin Bike Week in Ohio. As we leave May it is often forgotten that is Motorcycle Awareness Month. As our delayed Ohio weather improves the number of motorcycles on the road increases daily.

With bike week upon up please remember "Look Twice to Save a Life." Motorcycles can be deceptive when it comes to visibility or judging speed. There may be a stigma to motorcycles but remember the rider is still someone's spouse, child, sibling or parent.

So many gestures are small but they serve to Honor and Remember those who served. Thank you to our armed forces: Active Duty and Veteran's alike. Your sacrifice and service do not go un-noticed. Have a safe Memorial Day everyone.

Throughout the week if you see an officer wearing a band over their badge, understand they are honoring those who answered the call. The mourning band is traditional practice during National Police Officer Memorial Week (Police Week). The bands are also standard where an officer is lost in the line of duty.

Update: Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, donated or gave support in anyway. The department is happy to see a community who cares and works together.

The Bay View Police Department and Village Volunteers will be hosting a spaghetti benefit event in support of Ofc. Glenn Schenk. Ofc. Schenk experienced a medical emergency while on duty and remains out of service for recovery. The event is set for Saturday May 30th at noon in the village park. Should weather be a complication the event will be moved to the Bay View Fire Station. Meals will be $12 with water provided. The event will include music, a 50/50 drawing and raffle baskets. As we approach May agencies across the county, state and nation prepare for Law Enforcement Memorial Week as well as their areas celebrations and commemorations.

The Erie County Ohio Law Enforcement Memorial Service will be held on May 9th at 2 PM. The service will take place at the Law Enforcement Memorial grounds on the North Lawn of 323 Columbus Ave, with members of the public welcome to attend.

Ohio’s large event starting off memorial week will be the Memorial Caravan coordinated through Light Ohio Blue. For more details or to get involved visit www.lightohioblue.org .

National Police Week in Washington D.C. will span May 11th – 16th, with events each day and evening. Organizing partners are: National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, Fraternal Order of Police, Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary and Concerns or Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.). The Bayview Police Department and Bayview Police Association would like to thank everyone involved with the village Easter Egg Hunt and Pancake Breakfast. A special thanks to donors: South of Heaven Guide Service, Linkenbach Painting, The Boldman Family and ALL of our amazing volunteers. The event went great with fair weather, a community gathering, food, candy and exercise. The event would not have been possible without everyone including Bay View Fire Department and Bay View Police & Fire children's activities.
