Firefighter Stephen Murray brings the same drive, discipline, and determination to his work at Mountain View Fire & Rescue as he does to the challenges he takes off shift.

On August 14, Stephen completed the Bigfoot 200 Destination Trail ultramarathon, more than 200 miles and 44,000 feet of elevation gain in 71 hours and 47 minutes, beating his goal of finishing under 72 hours and placing 20th overall out of 290 registered runners.

His message after the race: "Set a goal, commit to it, and go after it."

We’re proud of Stephen’s incredible accomplishment and the dedication he brings to serving our community every shift. Congratulations, Firefighter Murray!

Our firefighters recently joined regional partners at Kentlake High School for a Scenes of Violence/Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill.

Working alongside agencies throughout our Zone, including King County Medic One, crews practiced coordinated response, patient triage, treatment, communication, and transportation during a complex, high-risk scenario.

Training together before an emergency happens strengthens regional coordination and helps ensure our crews are prepared to respond quickly and effectively when our communities need us most.

Thank you to all of our regional partners who participated in this important training.

Our firefighters recently recently joined crews from Enumclaw Fire Department and the City of Buckley Fire Department for a tender drill, practicing water supply operations in areas where fire hydrants may not be readily available.

Training together helps crews strengthen coordination, communication, and the movement of large volumes of water using water tenders—skills that can be critical during structure fires and wildland incidents in rural areas.

We appreciate the opportunity to train alongside our neighboring departments and continue building strong regional partnerships that help us better serve our communities.

🚌 School Bus Safety Alert! 🚸

Did you know? Children are most vulnerable when getting on or off the bus.

When you see those flashing lights and stop sign, it’s time to hit the brakes! Here’s the rundown:

- 2-lane road? EVERYONE stops.
- 3+ lanes, turn lane, or median? Stop if you’re going the same way as the bus.

⏱️ A few minutes of waiting 🚸 = A lifetime of safety for our students

Remember: When the stop sign’s out, all nearby traffic stops. No exceptions!

Let’s make this the safest school year yet. Share to spread the word!

Happy National Dog Day!

Today is a great reminder to celebrate our pet family members—and make sure they’re included in your home emergency plan.

🐾 Keep pets away from flames
🐾 Pack pet emergency supplies
🐾 Keep leashes/carriers handy
🐾 Update ID information
🐾 Tell firefighters where pets may be

We also have pet emergency window clings and stickers available to place near your home’s entrance. In an emergency, they can help first responders know which pets may be inside and who to contact if you’re not home.

To request a window cling or sticker, email your mailing information to [email protected].

Firefighters Godwin and Wake recently participated in Rescue Swimmer training through the King County Fire Training Consortium. The specialized training focused on safely operating in challenging water environments, strengthening rescue techniques, and working effectively as a team during water-related emergencies.

With many lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water throughout our district and region, water safety is especially important. Choose a safe swimming area with a lifeguard whenever possible, wear a properly fitted life jacket, stay sober around the water, and always closely supervise children.

We’re proud of their commitment to building the skills needed to better protect our community—on land and in the water!

For more info on safe swimming, visit the Washington State Department of Health at https://doh.wa.gov/community-and-environment/water-recreation/lake-river-and-beach-safety.

With thousands of fans and some of the fastest race cars in the world, safety is always a top priority. Our crews were on standby, ready to respond if needed, helping ensure drivers, crews, and spectators could enjoy an exciting weekend with peace of mind.

Thank you to our firefighters for their professionalism, preparedness, and commitment to keeping our community safe—both on and off the track.

On August 7, 2026, Mountain View Fire & Rescue responded to a reported vehicle vs. power pole collision near SE 424th St and 244th Ave SE alongside Enumclaw Fire Department, Puget Sound Fire and City of Buckley Fire Department, with assistance from Puget Sound Energy.

A single vehicle struck and sheared a power pole in half, bringing high-voltage power lines down into nearby dry vegetation and igniting a brush fire. No injuries were reported.

Crews took a tactical position to protect the surrounding area and prevent the fire from spreading while awaiting Puget Sound Energy. Once the electrical hazard was addressed and it was safe to operate, firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining fire.
