Big questions from young learners in our community! Yesterday, E334 visited a Lea Hill preschool for an engine tour, gear show and tell, and a fun safety lesson 🚒

We enjoy every chance to engage with our community and share a little education along the way.

This week, we recognize CPR & Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Awareness Week. Knowing how to perform CPR and use an AED can truly save a life. During a cardiac emergency, every second counts. CPR keeps blood flowing to the brain and vital organs until help arrives, while an AED can restore a normal heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest.

AEDs are located throughout our community, including at workplaces, airports, sports venues, parks, and other public spaces. These life-saving devices are designed for anyone to use in an emergency.

You don’t need to be a healthcare professional to make a lifesaving difference. By learning these skills, you can help protect your family, friends, coworkers, and community.
•Learn CPR
•Know where AEDs are located
•Be prepared to act

Congratulations to Captain Jeremiah Mushen on celebrating 20 years of dedicated service with the VRFA!

Since joining in 2004, Mushen has made a positive impact, earning a promotion to Captain in April 2019. His commitment goes beyond the daily call of duty, serving on specialized teams such as the Technical Rescue Team (TRT) since 2009, the FEMA US&R WA-Task Force 1, Wildland Team, and as a founding member of the Peer Support Team. Captain Mushen has also served as a former Health and Wellness Team Lead.

Mushen’s outstanding service has been recognized with several awards, including the Medal of Commendation (2009, for an off-duty CPR save), Meritorious Unit Citation (2016, for leadership during a rope rescue), and the Medal of Merit (2022, for a successful river rescue as TRT officer).

Before joining the fire service, Captain Mushen served as a Beach Manager and Lifeguard Training Instructor for the City of Seattle.

When asked what he enjoys about being in the fire service, he said, “I gain tremendous satisfaction from helping others on their worst days, regardless of life circumstances.”

Outside of work, Captain Mushen is just as inspiring: 10 years as a Cub Scout leader, coaching Little League, and completing 29 marathons and 3 Ironman triathlons!

Please join us in congratulating Captain Mushen on two decades of remarkable service and leadership!

May is National Water Safety Month, and as temperatures rise, more people are heading to lakes, rivers, pools, and beaches to cool off. 🌊☀️

Before you dive in, remember:
🚤 Always wear a life jacket when boating or participating in water activities
👀 Keep constant supervision of children near water
📱 Avoid distractions while swimming or watching others
🏊 Learn CPR and basic water rescue skills
🚫 Never swim alone

Our firefighters and rescue teams train year-round for water emergencies, but prevention is the best protection. A few simple safety steps can help ensure everyone enjoys the water safely this season.

Stay safe, stay alert, and make smart choices around the water.
