Last Thursday, we hosted our second annual "speed networking" event for our Emerging Leaders Initiative (ELI) members and our Board of Directors. More than 40 of our young professionals met with 12 different Board Members from across all sectors of the development industry, connecting our region's current leaders with the next generation. Thanks to Goodwyn Mills Cawood for hosting ELI for this event.

JUST ANNOUNCED: An exciting line-up of entertainers and artists have been selected for a Cultural Tribute to honor Egbert Perry at the 2026 Four Pillar Tribute, presented by Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, Delta Air Lines, Georgia Power, & Norfolk Southern.

On October 1, Atlanta will recognize Egbert Perry with special performances from Next Atlanta artists Jon Goode, Kenny Banks Jr., and Bria Anai, celebrating his decades-long legacy of elevating Atlanta’s artists. The opening tribute will feature PanSonics Steel Band and Caribbean Dancers of Atlanta, honoring Perry’s Caribbean roots and heritage.

NOW ANNOUNCING the Council's 2026 CID Recognition Award Recipients, Jim Vaught, Chairman of Lilburn Community Improvement District, and A.J. Robinson, President of Downtown Atlanta Inc. The 17th Annual CID Recognition Reception, presented by Georgia Power, Lilburn Community Improvement District, & Pond, will be held in November, with details being announced soon.

Jim Vaught will be recognized with the John Williams CID Leadership Award for his leadership of the Lilburn Community Improvement District and his longstanding commitment to the Lilburn community. The CID Professional Excellence Award will recognize A.J. Robinson for his more than two decades of leadership with the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and his impact on Downtown Atlanta. The Council commends the work of both Vaught and Robinson to advance the impact of Community Improvement Districts across the region. With the efforts of leaders like these, CIDs continue to drive investment in infrastructure, public safety, mobility, parks and greenspace, beautification, economic development, and quality-of-life improvements that strengthen communities throughout metro Atlanta.

Last Friday, the Council hosted 2026 at the City Springs Byers Theatre, bringing together over 550 Council members, elected officials, local governments, and development industry professionals for an in-depth look at how artificial intelligence is transforming the built environment and shaping the future of development.

This year’s program featured 23 distinguished speakers across 7 unique content sessions, offering perspectives from AI and technology experts, development and construction leaders, local government officials, and industry professionals. Highlights included keynotes from Greg Lindsay and Jonathan Noble, discussions on AI applications across planning, design, permitting, and construction, the infrastructure demands of the AI economy, the water-energy nexus of data center development, and the local considerations surrounding data center regulation.

Thanks to all the speakers who shared their expertise, and to our sponsors and attendees for supporting the Council’s mission to keep the region educated on the issues shaping our communities.
