University System of Georgia The University System of Georgia is composed of 25 public colleges and universities, the State Archives and the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS).

The University System of Georgia, a part of the community in each of Georgia’s 159 counties, provides services across the state. The University System is composed of 26 public colleges and universities, the State Archives and the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS). GPLS encompasses approximately 389 facilities in 61 library systems throughout Georgia.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Chancellor Perdue’s longtime colleague and friend, former Regent and Georgia House Majority Leader Larry Walker Jr. A fellow Houston County native, Walker served alongside Chancellor Perdue for many years at the Capitol and in advancing higher education across Georgia. USG’s Board of Regents has named Dr. Donald J. Green as the sole finalist for president of Valdosta State University. Green, currently the president of Gordon State College, has nearly 36 years of higher education experience, 10 of which are within the system. Under his leadership, GSC this fall awarded 19% more degrees than the previous year and improved retention by 11 percentage points.
