☀️ Stay Sun Safe at the Library! ☀️

We are excited to share that a FREE sunscreen dispenser is now available at the library!

This dispenser was provided through the 2026 Vermont Community Sunscreen Dispenser Program, sponsored by VTAAC, Dartmouth Cancer Center, UVM Cancer Center, and IMPACT Melanoma.

Whether you're enjoying the playground, spending time on the school fields, or attending one of our outdoor programs—like our upcoming Pollinator Garden Program—you can stop by and apply sunscreen before heading outside.

Protecting your skin is an important part of staying healthy and enjoying summer safely. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this free resource!

🌞 Stop by, apply, and enjoy the sunshine safely!

Summer is a great time for students to strengthen their math skills, build confidence, and prepare for the coming school year.

We're offering free math tutoring for elementary school students every other Tuesday throughout the summer at the Martha Canfield library. Whether your student needs extra support, wants to avoid summer learning loss, or just enjoys mathematics, we'd love to work with them this summer.

Feel free to share this opportunity with families who may be interested.

Lots happening at the Martha Canfield Memorial Free Library this week!

On Thursday, new carpet will be installed in our downstairs meeting room thanks to our Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities grant. This improvement grew directly from community conversations about making the space more functional and comfortable for neurodivergent learning and work. It follows other recent upgrades, including fresh paint, new tables and chairs, and a classroom whiteboard.

📚 Storytime: Thursday at 10:00 AM

🍓 Friday, 4:00–7:00 PM: Visit the Library Board of Trustees at the Arlington Farmers Market for strawberry shortcake and watermelon slices! While you're there, share your ideas for the library's strategic planning process, Another Chapter of Martha.

📖 Saturday at 11:00 AM: Cookbook Club discussion of The Silver Palate

🌲 Saturday at 1:00 PM: Learn about green burial with Vermont Forest Cemetery

We hope to see you at the library this week!

Thank you to everyone who thinks of the library when donating books, puzzles, and other materials. We truly appreciate your generosity and your desire to support the library and our community!

Before bringing donations, please call the library to check whether we are currently able to accept them. We also ask that donations not be left outside the building, as weather and other conditions can quickly damage materials.

A reminder that we do accept puzzles, but they must be in their original boxes.

Unfortunately, materials that do not meet our donation guidelines cannot be added to our collection or sold, and the cost of disposing of those items falls on the library.

Thank you for helping us make the best use of our limited staff time and resources while keeping donations in good condition for future readers and puzzle enthusiasts!
