Yesterday, Andover Fire had a great time visiting the students at Crooked Lake Elementary School!

We spent time talking about some important fire safety topics, including cooking safety, smoke alarms, and ways to stay safe at home.

Of course, no fire department visit would be complete without some hands-on fun! The students got an up-close look at our firefighter turnout gear, explored the compartments of our ladder truck, and learned about some of the tools and equipment we use to keep our community safe.

It was a fun day filled with great questions, lots of excitement, and hopefully a few future firefighters in the making!

A big THANK YOU to Crooked Lake Elementary for having us! We always enjoy the opportunity to connect with our youngest community members and help build a foundation of fire safety that will last a lifetime!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of being part of the Trunk or Treat event at Essentials of Life Chiropractic!

They had another great turnout, with lots of little ghosts and goblins stopping by to grab some candy and spend time with our favorite fire dog, Sparky!

A big thank-you to Essentials of Life Chiropractic for hosting a fun community event and letting us be part of their Halloween festivities. We always love getting out into the community and seeing all the smiling faces!

Last week’s drill focused on the art of reading smoke, flow paths, door control, and fire behavior. We started with a PowerPoint presentation to review these critical concepts, then took what we learned out to the parking lot to put it into practice using a burn prop we built.

This hands-on training allowed our firefighters to see firsthand how fire conditions change under different circumstances and what to expect when approaching a structure fire. Understanding smoke conditions and recognizing changes in fire behavior are essential skills that help firefighters make better decisions and operate more safely on the fireground.

Reading smoke can save lives. Recognizing the warning signs before entering a burning structure helps our firefighters better understand the potential dangers and make informed decisions before committing to an interior attack.

Great work by everyone involved in building the prop and making this valuable training opportunity possible

This week’s drill focused on moving big water in areas without hydrants. Our firefighters reviewed water supply operations, water shuttling with tenders, and using two drop tanks to supply master streams capable of flowing large volumes of water at major fires.

There are many areas in and around Andover without hydrants, so we need to be prepared with alternative water supply options when a large fire occurs. 🚒

Training like this ensures our firefighters are ready to adapt, work together with our mutual aid partners, and deliver the water needed to protect our community, and others, when it matters most!
