The Alexandria Fire Department is proud to recognize two members of our team for their recent educational achievements.

Captain Anthony Gaines Junior graduated from Columbia Southern University with an Associate of Science in Fire Science, and Fire Prevention Officer Kyle Adams graduated from Louisiana State University at Eunice with an Associate of Science in Fire and Emergency Services.

Continuing education helps strengthen the knowledge, skills, and leadership that our firefighters bring to the job every day. We congratulate Captain Gaines and Fire Prevention Officer Adams on this accomplishment and thank them for their commitment and service to our community.

Alexandria Fire Department Responds Two-Alarm Fire on Bolton Avenue. At approximately 12:26 a.m. this morning, the Alexandria Fire Department (AFD) was dispatched to a reported commercial structure fire in the 700 block of Bolton Avenue.

Fire crews arrived on the scene within two minutes of the initial alarm. Upon arrival, the first unit observed a commercial building fully engulfed in flames. Crews entered the building in an effort to suppress the fire but were forced to evacuate due to a roof collapse. The collapse subsequently caused the building’s front wall to fail.

No injures were reported as a result of the event. Through the course of its investigation, the AFD identified and arrest a suspect, Justin Garrett, who has been charged with simple arson.

Alexandria Fire Department Announces Passing of Fire Captain Joshua Holloway

It is with deep sadness that the Alexandria Fire Department announces the passing of Fire Captain Joshua Leon Holloway, who died on February 18, 2026. Captain Holloway was a valued member of our department and served the Alexandria community with dedication and honor.

Captain Holloway joined the Alexandria Fire Department in 2007 and throughout his career demonstrated unwavering commitment to public safety and service. His professionalism, courage, and compassion touched the lives of countless citizens and fellow firefighters.

While Captain Holloway did not pass away in the line of duty, his contributions to the department and the community will never be forgotten. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

Details regarding memorial arrangements will be shared as they become available. We ask that the public join us in honoring Captain Holloway’s memory and keeping his loved ones in your thoughts.

Alexandria Fire Department Responds Two-Alarm Fire on Dallas Street.

At approximately 5:39 AM today, the Alexandria Fire Department (AFD) was dispatched to a reported commercial structure fire in the 1200 block of Dallas Street.

Fire crews arrived on the scene within two minutes of the initial dispatch. Upon arrival, they observed fire coming from metal debris piles outside a commercial building. AFD brought the fire under control within thirty minutes of the alarm.

The cause remains under investigation.
