Hey Cook……got some info on the hurricane to share.

As stated yesterday, this storm has quickly become a big problem for the Florida Panhandle. Expected to reach CAT2 strength, coastal areas and inland areas near Pensacola will get hammered. Praying for our neighbors in Florida and Alabama.

🌪️ISOLATED TORNADOS COULD PRESENT A PROBLEM IN OUR AREA Friday night and Saturday. PLEASE STAY WEATHER AWARE AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THE WEEKEND.

👉🏼Updates will be given as we get info 🌀🌪️🌩️

Wanted to share info on TS Isaias (expected to be a hurricane soon). This storm’s location is going to allow for rapid intensification over the next 12-24hrs.

🌀As we all know, large storms like Isaias can impact areas well outside the “cone”. With that being said, currently, our area is not anticipating direct impacts. The storm field this storm will create will likely thrown bands of stormy weather to our area without the wind problems.

🌀This storm will continue to intensify. The National Hurricane Center has estimated landfall near the Pensacola, FL.

🌩️Our area can expect a stormy weekend but nothing concerning like a hurricane. Starting Friday, please stay weather aware as the outer bands could bring storms and heavy rainfall to our already saturated county.

To recap:

👉🏼No hurricane impacts are expected for Cook County at this time. Updates will be posted as we receive info.

With the amount of rain that is falling on our roads, please slow down! Hydroplaning is happening and wrecks are piling up around the county.

Please slow down.

🔥 Need a burn permit? There's now an easier way to get one!

Beginning TODAY, the Georgia Forestry Commission is offering a new online burn permit system, making it more convenient to obtain permits for eligible agricultural, land-clearing and silvicultural burns.

💻 Apply from your computer or phone.
⏰ Available daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
📅 Permits are issued for the current day only.

The new system follows the same local restrictions and safety requirements already in place. If burning isn't permitted in your area or for your burn category that day, the system will let you know.

One important note: Certified Prescribed Burn Managers requesting silvicultural permits must enter their certification number. Those without a number will be directed to contact GFC for assistance.

And remember, permits are not required for hand-piled natural vegetation, but Georgia's SSTAR safety requirements still apply.
