So far…….Mother Nature’s rain math ain’t mathin’. 🤷🏻‍♀️

05/31/2026

Goooood morning Cook County. A little info on the weather for today to swallow with your coffee ☕️ this morning.

👉🏼Today is bringing potentially heavy rain to our region. Amounts could range from 1” to 4-5”. Quite the contrast to a month ago when we all begged for rain!

👉🏼The rain is welcomed, but it may bring thunderstorms with it and cause for a rough travel day. If you’re planning on traveling this afternoon, please stay weather aware. Localized flooding and flash flooding could be a problem this afternoon. Slow down and arrive safe!

👉🏼The past few storms that have moved through our area dropped lightning strikes ⚡️and wind 💨 brought down trees and 💥power poles/lines. Staying weather aware today will be the best way to protect yourselves from being bullied by today’s weather 👍🏼

***Cook County Residents***
The county wide burn ordinance was lifted by the Cook County Commissioners in the meeting on May 18th for outdoor burning.
You are now allowed to burn yard debris. This includes sticks, limbs, leaves, and plants. If it is a machine made pile, you still have to go thru Georgia Forestry Commission to obtain a burn permit.
With all of the rain that we have had over the past 2 weeks, we are still in extreme drought conditions, so we are asking everyone to be vigilant when burning yard debris.
* Stay outside with the fire at all times
* Have a water supply available to extinguish the fire if it does become a problem.
* Make sure the fire is completely out before leaving it
As a reminder, household trash, furniture, and anything man made cannot be burned. It must go to the landfill. YOU WILL BE SITED FOR THIS.
Please pass this information along to others that might not have social media and remember to be careful when burning.
If you have any questions, please call your local fire departments for more information.
The County Fire Chief will continue to monitor the drought condition and update the Commissioners as needed.
