GARBO SA TURISMO 2026 | The Fashion Show
Event Director: Christian Noel S. Blantucas

From the latest looks of Tubigon’s commercial boutiques to the creative masterpieces of our young designers, fashion took center stage at Garbo sa Turismo 2026.

The evening featured a showcase of fashion pieces from our local commercial boutiques, celebrating the growing creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of Tubigon’s local business community.

One of the most anticipated highlights was the Raffia Fashion Piece Contest, where our talented young artists transformed our locally woven raffia into imaginative and extraordinary fashion pieces.

More than just a fashion showcase, the competition celebrated raffia as a symbol of Tubigon’s identity, craftsmanship, creativity, and living heritage — proving that our local tradition can be woven into something fresh and contemporary.

From the hands of our weavers to the creativity of our young artists, Tubigon’s raffia continues to tell a story, positioning Tubigon as the Raffia Capital of Bohol.

And during Garbo Sa Turismo 2026, that story walked the runway. ✨

TUBIGON — THE GATEWAY TO NORTHERN BOHOL

Garbo Sa Turismo served as the Culmination Program of Tubigon’s National Tourism Month Celebration 2026 — a celebration envisioned to bring together the many faces of Tubigon’s tourism: its people, culture, heritage, creativity, and tourism stakeholders.

The celebration began with warm welcoming message from the Municipal Mayor of Tubigon, Hon. Marlon R. Amila, J.D., inspiring messages from Municipal Vice Mayor Delia F. Lasco, and Hon. Gail Jao, Chairperson of the Committee on Tourism. For this year’s world tourism theme message, we heard an inspiring message from our distinguished guest, Ms. Joanne M. Pinat, Head of the Bohol Provincial Tourism Office and Bohol Island Geopark Program Manager.

A significant highlight of the evening was the official unveiling of the Tubigon Land Tour Circuit, a new tourism experience connecting our historical, natural, cultural, and community-based tourism assets into one meaningful journey.

And behind the vision and the celebration was a creative force who helped transform the concept into an unforgettable experience. Garbo Sa Turismo would not have been as memorable, spectacular, and truly one-for-the-books without the artistic vision of our Creative Director, our very own Hon. Christian Noel S. Blantucas of Brgy. Cahayag, Tubigon. We are deeply grateful for his generosity in sharing his talent, creativity, and artistic vision in bringing this celebration to life.

Garbo Sa Turismo was the brainchild of Municipal Tourism Officer Ms. Amir Sol-Medrano, who envisioned a celebration that would go beyond recognizing tourism achievements. Garbo Sa Turismo was created to celebrate the excellence and dedication of Tubigon’s tourism stakeholders, the richness of our cultural heritage through performing arts, and the enduring tradition of our raffia weaving industry through fashion and creativity.

GARBO SA TUBIGON | Cultural Show
Introducing the Kabilin Performing Ambassadors of Tubigon ❤️
Artistic Director: Frank Anthony Baura Mascariñas

Rooted in the cultural traditions of the Kalinga people of the Cordillera, KINNAYAW tells a story of bravery, courtship, union, and the strength of community.

The performance begins with a young warrior returning victorious from battle, welcomed and honored by his community. As the celebration unfolds, the warrior turns toward courtship and eventually chooses his bride. Their union is celebrated by the community, with the maidens presenting the bride with bangas as part of the festivities.

At the height of the celebration, the bride takes on the remarkable challenge of balancing a growing pile of bangas—a powerful display of strength, grace, and determination. Thus, what begins as a celebration of the warrior's courage becomes a celebration of the woman's own strength and spirit.

Accompanied by the traditional sounds of the gangsa and bamboo instruments, KINNAYAW reminds us that strength is not defined by the warrior alone. It is also found in the woman, in partnership, and in the community that celebrates them both.

Bringing this story to life is Kabilin Performing Ambassadors of Tubigon, a newly formed community-based cultural performing group founded in 2026. Kabilin, meaning heritage or something passed down through generations, was created to help carry, celebrate, and pass on cultural traditions through the performing arts.

Under the guidance of LUPAE Artistic Director Mr. Frank Anthony B. Mascariñas, in partnership with the Municipal Tourism Office, Kabilin made its debut at DepEd Jagna’s Indak Sayawan 2026, where the group proudly earned 3rd Place.

KINNAYAW is more than a dance—it is a celebration of courage, womanhood, love, and community, carried forward by a new generation of cultural ambassadors. ❤️

"MASURKA BOHOLANA"
Artistic Director: Frank Anthony Baura Mascariñas

Mazurka Boholana is a graceful yet lively Boholano ballroom dance that shows how foreign influences were embraced, adapted, and given a distinctly Filipino character.

Mazurka Boholana is a traditional ballroom folk dance from Bohol, influenced by the European mazurka that became popular in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period. It is performed in 3/4 time and is characterized by graceful partner movements, lively footwork, turns, and a refined ballroom quality. Historical dance references describe it as being performed originally by couples informally scattered around the dance floor, without a fixed sequence of figures.

The dance is commonly classified among the Maria Clara dances, with women traditionally wearing the Maria Clara-style costume and men wearing the Barong Tagalog. Its Boholano identity is particularly reflected in its combination of mazurka, redoba, and sangig movements, making it a distinctive example of how European dance forms were adapted and localized into Philippine folk tradition.

SAIL OF THE SARIMANOK
“A Theatrical Journey into Maranao Heritage”

Across the waters of Mindanao, a royal journey begins.
A Maranao prince and princess set sail toward the heart of their homeland, accompanied by the graceful movement of the vinta and the rhythmic strokes of bamboo paddles. As they arrive, the waters seem to give way to a world filled with tradition, color, elegance, and pride.

The women of the community welcome the princess through the flowing movement of cloth, evoking the gentle waves of Lake Lanao. At the heart of this gathering, the princess sets aside her Sarimanok headdress and is introduced to the graceful tradition of the KUMBONG, symbolizing the wearing of the hijab. Surrounded by her ladies, she then joins in the KAPPA MALONG-MALONG, revealing the versatility of the malong and its place in everyday Maranao life.

As the women leave the center, the atmosphere changes.
The prince returns and calls upon his warriors. With strength, discipline, and courage, the warriors perform the
SAGAYAN, portraying the spirit of the Maranao warrior and his readiness to defend his people. The energy rises until the royal procession appears.

An attendant carrying an umbrella leads the way, followed by the warriors carrying the princess upon bamboo poles. The procession moves toward the center, transforming the stage into a celebration of royalty, grace, and tradition.

At the center stands the princess—surrounded by her people, her warriors, and the symbols of her heritage.

The celebration culminates in SINGKIL, bringing together the elegance of the royal court, the strength of the warrior, and the enduring beauty of Maranao tradition.

Throughout this journey, the spirit of Maranao music gives life to the celebration. The performance is accompanied by live percussion inspired by the traditional KULINTANG AND AGONG ENSEMBLE, allowing the resonant sounds of the gongs to echo the rhythm, vitality, and identity of the Maranao people.

HIBLA SA TUBIGON:
WOVEN BY HERITAGE, WORN WITH PRIDE

Every thread has a story. And every story begins at home.

This creation is more than a dress.
It is a story woven from the heart of Tubigon, Bohol, a story of nature, culture, community, and pride.

Crafted from raffia, every strand represents the hands, creativity, and tenacity of our people. What may seem simple becomes meaningful when woven together just like a community becomes stronger when united.

The color red proudly represents Cawayanan National High School, a symbol of courage, passion, determination, and the spirit of students who continue to dream and strive for excellence.

The white represents purity, hope, and unity, a reminder that despite our differences, we are connected by one home, one community, and one heritage.

From the uplands, we carry the richness of the land, the humble harvests and hardworking people whose lives are rooted in the soil.

The bamboo-inspired elements on the arms symbolize strength, flexibility, and resilience bending with life's challenges, yet never breaking. At the heart of the design are elements inspired by our island and coastal life.

The traditional woven rice pouch reminds us the many ways our people use what nature provides, from food to everyday necessities. It represents resourcefulness and making something valuable from what is already in our surroundings.

And as this story reaches the sea, we discover another part of Tubigon's identity.
The crab, crafted from raffia, represents the life and livelihood found along our shores. Beside it are the coral reefs, a reminder that beneath our waters lies a world that deserves to be protected and cherished.

We are the uplands and the islands.
We are the farmers and the fisherfolk.
We are the land and the sea.
We are tradition and creativity woven into one identity.

From the soil that nurtures us, to the sea that sustains us, and to the school that teaches us to dream, this is Tubigon, this is our heritage, this is our pride, this is not merely a dress.

This is our story, woven by nature, shaped by culture, and worn with pride.
