The Executive Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗸𝗮, 𝗘𝘀𝗾., has approved monthly stipends of ₦𝟯𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 for corps members serving in the LGA and ₦𝟭𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 for corps members serving as doctors.
The announcement was made during an interactive session between the Chairman and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Ogu/Bolo, held at the Council Secretariat. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Chairman to engage with the corps members on their welfare, working conditions and challenges encountered during their service year.
The approved stipends will take effect from November 2026.
The Chairman also announced that corps members would be registered under the council’s health insurance scheme from the end of October 2026. Under the arrangement, corps members will be able to access medical services covered by the scheme at the General Hospital without direct payment for such treatment.
During the session, 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗸𝗮 advised corps members to develop additional skills, explore opportunities beyond their fields of study and remain committed to their personal and professional development.
He noted that success was not limited to any particular course of study or profession, encouraging the corps members to identify opportunities through which they could apply their abilities and create value.
The Chairman also urged them to maintain good relationships with members of their host communities, conduct themselves responsibly and remain committed to their primary assignments.
He expressed concern over the reported absence of some corps members from their places of primary assignment and advised them to demonstrate greater commitment to their duties.
The Chairman further stated that the health and safety of corps members remained a concern of the council and urged them to exercise caution while carrying out their activities within the LGA.
During the interactive session, corps members raised concerns about the condition of their lodges, school facilities and other welfare-related matters.
In response, the Chairman directed the Chief of Staff to inspect the affected facilities, investigate the complaints and submit a report to the council for necessary action.
Speaking on behalf of the corps members, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗘𝗻𝗼𝗰𝗵 𝗞𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗱𝗲 thanked the Chairman for his continued attention to their welfare and for responding to requests for assistance.
He also acknowledged the council’s support regarding electricity, healthcare access and security, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to discuss their concerns directly with the council leadership.
