Taking Pride in Our Community – Keeping Our Neighbourhoods Clean

We are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated volunteer litter pickers who generously give up their time to help keep our communities clean, tidy and somewhere we can all be proud to live. 👏

Their efforts, alongside those of residents who do their bit every day, make a huge difference to our local environment and the quality of life in our neighbourhoods.

Unfortunately, fly-tipping continues to be an issue, and it is disappointing to see rubbish dumped in areas that so many people work hard to look after.

Cllr Carter and I are committed to tackling fly-tipping and protecting our local environment. We will continue to work hard to ensure incidents are investigated and, where there is sufficient evidence, support appropriate enforcement action, including prosecution.

Everyone deserves to live in a clean, safe and welcoming community, and by working together we can make a real difference.

A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers and everyone who takes pride in where they live. Your efforts really do matter and are greatly appreciated.

Let’s continue working together to keep our communities looking their best!

A very productive Wakefield Council Cabinet meeting today, with important decisions approved: ✅

🏨 Development of a Marriott hotel at the former Westgate railway station site.
🏉 Additional support for Featherstone Rovers Rugby Club.
💬 Consultation on proposed changes to board and lodging charges within the Shared Lives service.
🚗 Measures to make parking in Wakefield more effective and efficient.

As Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Social Care, I welcome residents’ views through the Shared Lives consultation.

Working together to support our communities and move our district forward.

Yesterday’s Full Council meeting was certainly lively, with heated questions and answers from both administration and opposition members.

As Cabinet Member for Adults Social Care and Health, I shared updates on testing new technology, improving efficiency in our wheelchair service, Falls Prevention Awareness Week and Stoptober sessions.

My focus remains on improving services, supporting residents’ independence and delivering value for money across Wakefield.

Thank you to all our Council Staff, NHS colleagues, carer and volunteers for doing everything for our residents.
