The Government has today unexpectedly announced that Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) is being paused and reviewed, including proposals affecting Gloucestershire, and therefore Stroud District Council.

Councils in Gloucestershire are seeking further information in addition to the Secretary of State's announcement to the House of Commons made today.

The Government says the review will ensure the reorganisation process is robust, complies with legal requirements, and aligns with its wider plans for devolution and local government reform.

At this stage, we do not have further details on the implications for Gloucestershire or the timescales for completing the review.

A reminder that there will be a 7 day road closure from 23 September between the hours of 9.30 and 15.30 of Bear Hill (past the junction with Dusty Lane) along to Moor Court for resurfacing works. There will be no vehicle access to the road (except for emergency vehicles) during the closure period. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

For the past 12 months we have been delighted to host the Shekhinah Glory Church at the Community Hall on Sundays. From September, they are, however, moving to a venue that is a little closer to the majority of their congregation.

We are sad to see them go, but this does mean we have some new availability in the Community Hall and Meeting Room on Sundays. Whether it be a regular or one-off hire, our lovely facilities are great for a wide range of events, meetings, classes and celebrations.

Remembering Rodborough are running a local history hub in the meeting room at the Community Hall on Friday 11 September between 1pm and 4pm. They might be able to help you discover more about your Rodborough ancestors or property. Or perhaps you have information to share with them? If you have a starting point; a name, photo, house deeds, etc. they will do their best to set you on a course to discovering more. A reminder that Ash Road will be temporarily closed between 1st and 2nd September between the house known as Langara and the house known as Pax to allow Severn Trent to carry out works.

We have been made aware of cattle coming down from the Common, either exiting through pedestrian gates that have been left open or crossing cattle grids at the Tabernacle and The Butts! The Hayward has been made aware, but this is a reminder to please always shut gates and take extra care on the roads over and around the Common as cattle wander a little further than normal looking for greener grazing (picture from a previous, greener year!).

Rodborough Tabernacle are exploring the idea of a community mini bus for Rodborough at a public meeting at the Prince Albert on Wednesday 23 September at 7pm. All are welcome to come along and chat about the possibilities for a community mini bus for our parish.

Rodborough Parish Council Commences Legal Proceedings Over Unauthorised Occupation of Council Land

RODBOROUGH, GLOUCESTERSHIRE – 21 August 2026

Rodborough Parish Council has formally resolved to commence legal proceedings in relation to the unauthorised occupation of Council-owned land and the continued failure to vacate that land.

The Council regards this action as a measure of last resort, taken only after more than five years of engagement with the resident concerned and after exploring all reasonable alternatives to resolve the matter.

While the Council considers it important to inform residents that legal proceedings have commenced, it will make no further comment on the case in order to protect the identity and privacy of the individual involved and to avoid prejudicing ongoing legal proceedings.

Charles Pedrick, Chair of Rodborough Parish Council, said:

“Land owned by the Council is held in trust for the benefit of the local community, and we have a duty to protect those assets and ensure they remain available for community use.

I am disappointed that we have reached the point of having to use public funds in an attempt to resolve this matter. However, both I and the Council are satisfied that every reasonable alternative has been thoroughly explored over the past five years, and that legal action is now necessary.”
