🏰 Pickering Castle has reopened!

We’re delighted to welcome visitors back to Pickering Castle on 29th August after today’s closure.

We’d like to apologise for the closure and for any inconvenience it may have caused, and thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

Come and explore the castle’s historic ruins, discover centuries of history and enjoy the beautiful views from one of Pickering’s most iconic landmarks. 🌿☀️

Newest members of the Pickering Castle family!

As many of you will have seen previously, that a beautiful duck had brought her family into the castle, it seems she’s passed on how good it is to her pheasant friends !!

While Pickering Castle is a dog friendly site, please remember to keep them on lead, so we can continue to host an abundance of wildlife here at the castle 😄🏰

Our prices have changed!

In line with the government reducing the VAT on admission prices it has made it easier for people to come enjoy our beautiful site!

Come and see us this weekend! Monday - Sunday, 10am-4:30pm. 😄

As many of you might’ve seen, our estates team hard at work de-vegging areas of the site!

This entails them coming months before to spray the growth on the walls, towers and stairs leaving it for a length of time and returning to pull the roots from the weeds that have died back!

It’s always fascinating to watch them work 🏰

While we remain open, please remember to stay hydrated and apply sun cream when necessary!

For those with dogs, we do have some areas of shelter plus filled water bowls for them! 🐶

Tower of the week! 🎉

Here stands the first thing you’ll see once entering Pickering castle, being Coleman Tower !

Mentioned in a document of 1323, Coleman Tower’s ground floor level was originally used as a prison for offenders against forest law, petty criminals and brigands in the Pickering district.

The upper floor housed soldiers who would defend the staircase and the inner bailey including the gatehouse!
