On Saturday 29 August, we were proud to name locomotive 66311 ‘Andrew Lartey’ at Newcastle Central Station in memory of our former colleague Andrew Lartey, who sadly passed away alongside his girlfriend Georgia in July 2024.

Andrew was a much-loved member of the GBRf family, and the ceremony brought together family, friends and colleagues to celebrate his life and railway legacy.

A touching detail behind the locomotive number is that it reflects both Andrew’s birthday (31 January) and Georgia’s birthday (6 June).

Following the naming, Andrew’s father, Dez Lartey, had the honour of being the first person to drive the locomotive on part of its journey to Doncaster.
