❗️A reminder we will be hosting another SEND Reform Information session tomorrow, May 27th at 3pm!

The session will cover:
➡ What is changing nationally
➡What we are doing locally
➡What this means for you and your child

You can join the sessions on Teams. Links are available in our latest newsletter: https://content.govdelivery.com/.../UKC.../bulletins/41859e1

We will record one of these sessions for parent/ carers who cannot attend - please note all attendees will have cameras and mics off while we record the session. We will also have the chat off for this session - please note this is for confidentiality purposes only. We would like to hear from all parents/ carers about the SEND Reforms, including your ideas, questions, and concerns.

You can complete our SEND Reform Survey here:

These will also be included on our SEND Reform Local Offer page: https://cumberlandsend.co.uk/gett.../SEND-reform-white-paper

We are also asking how parents/ carers would like to be involved in the development of our SEND Reform plans going forward. There is a question on this in the Reform survey, but we also have a
Communications Strategy and Working Together Charter survey: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=fgdLrFinxUuUZTXBkgB3BMEWhslzEV5Ok9qahRG_z0pUODFOTjBIVlRVMDFPTUxVRENZUFBXSFhIRC4u

Our latest Cumberland SEND & AP Partnership newsletter has just gone out with dates of information sessions on Cumberland's local SEND Reform Plan. These are taking place on:

➡ Thursday 21st May, 7 - 8pm
➡ Wednesday 27th May, 3 - 4pm

Both sessions are taking place on Teams and links for both sessions are in the newsletter: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/UKCUMBERLAND/bulletins/4166802

You will likely have heard about national changes being proposed through the Schools White Paper and SEND reform consultation.

We would like to reassure families that nothing is changing right now:

➡ there are no immediate changes to existing support, EHCPs or school provision
➡ children and young people will continue to be supported under the current SEND Code of Practice
➡ any future changes will be introduced gradually and we will keep families informed as changes are introduced
➡ we will involve families wherever we can in any decision making or changes to process etc.
➡ children and young people will continue to be supported throughout

We understand that any potential changes can feel worrying when they affect your family and particularly our children and young people. We currently don't yet know exactly what the final plans will look like. Any future changes will take time to introduce and will often come with further guidance. We're committed to keeping families informed and making sure you're supported and kept updated as things develop.

Every local authority area is now required to develop a SEND reform plan, setting out how it will strengthen and improve its SEND offer over the next three years.

We are currently developing our local SEND Reform Plan. This work is focused on:

➡ Making support available earlier
➡ Increasing support within mainstream settings
➡ Improving the quality and consistency of services
➡ Making sure families have a better experience of the system

This plan is being developed in partnership across education, health and social care, and we are working closely with SENDAC and other partners to ensure the voices of families are heard, however we want to hear from our families directly too.

We are kindly asking families to please complete our Cumberland SEND Reform Survey: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=fgdLrFinxUuUZTXBkgB3BMEWhslzEV5Ok9qahRG_z0pURTY4TjM4VVMyUDlWWFJJVUZRRUNNUTlXSi4u

Your views will play an important role in shaping Cumberland's Local SEND Reform Plan. All responses are anonymous. We invite you to share your general thoughts and experiences, rather than detailed personal stories, and we kindly ask that you don’t name individual professionals.

Now is a really important time to consider joining our parent/ carer forum, Sendac - Cumbria Parent Carer Forum or our participation and engagement group for young people with SEND, Unique Voices, Cumberland Youth Voice. fans

Welcome to our new and hello from SENDAC, your Parent Carer Forum for Cumberland (Cumbria)💙

Over the last few weeks many new parent carers have joined our page, so we wanted to take a moment to introduce who we are, what we do and let you know about you entitlement to become a member of ours!

👋 Who we are

SENDAC is the recognised Parent Carer Forum for Cumberland.

We are a volunteer led group and everyone running the forum is a parent carer to a child or young person with additional needs/ disabilities who lives in the Cumberland area.

We are not separate from you - we are you.

Most of us joined because we have been through the same systems, the same processes and faced the same challenges that many of you have/are experiencing. We know how worrying, confusing and sometimes heartbreaking those journeys can feel when you’re doing it alone.

We came together because we wanted things to be better, we wanted to make change so other families don’t have to fight the same battles we’ve been through.

✨ Why we exist

Parent Carer Forums don’t provide direct services, but we try and make sure the services that do exist work for your children and young people.

We:

- Bring your experiences and concerns directly to decision makers
- Challenge when things aren’t working
- Push for transparency and accountability
- Help shape new and developing services
- Make sure families are heard at every level.

Everything we do is driven by the lived experiences of parent carers in Cumberland. Your voices give us the evidence, the direction and the power to create change.

🤝 An equal strategic partner

Parent Carer Forums are Completely independent from the Local Authority and the NHS, being in the forum allow parents to bring change from the inside- we are recognised as an equal partner due to the children’s and families act 2014 and we are recognised in the SEND Code of practise 2015.

There is a formal agreement (MOU) between SENDAC, Cumberland Council and Contact which ensures we are invited to:

✔ Steering groups
✔ Workstreams
✔ Interview panels
✔ Co-production meetings
✔️ strategic decision making meetings.

So that Cumberland parent carer voices are always at the table.

We will:

✅ Challenge when things are not good enough
✅ Hold services to account
✅ Push for real, meaningful improvements

Because this is your forum and we are your voice.

Whether you are here for information, reassurance, to share your experiences or to help shape change, you are welcome.
