Cumberland Community Development

Cumberland Community Development Page managed by Cumberland Council's Community Development Team. For us engagement isn’t just listening, it is doing things together.

Listening, involving and engaging communities:

Our communities are best placed to determine their needs and aspirations. We value their views and ideas and so we will work alongside residents to jointly create and design services that impact on their lives. We want our residents to be involved and feel understood at every opportunity. We will work hard to remove as many barriers, differences and

inequalities as possible to ensure that everyone in our community can engage with us. We also recognise that when we do ask people to engage with us, it has to be meaningful.

“Without it, we’d have to leave our home.”

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who keep Cumberland moving 💙

For Pat from Keswick, our volunteer transport service is more than just a lift, it’s a lifeline.

“I can’t manage the hills or walk into town,” she says. “This service is reliable and affordable - without it, me and my husband wouldn’t be able to stay in our home of 26 years.”

Thanks to volunteers like Steve, people like Pat can stay independent, stay connected and continue living in the communities they know best.

🚗 We urgently need more volunteer drivers across Cumberland
📍 We’re also looking for a coordinator in Aspatria & Bothel

Volunteering often gives as much in return as it offers, creating connections, a sense of purpose and the knowledge that even a small contribution can make a real difference to someone’s day.
