Just had to share this inspiring story, which shows the impact of fostering for young people 👉
Saira Ali was three when she entered the care system, spending time with a foster parent before moving into a residential home at the age of 10.
She now fosters teenagers and says: "I know what the benefits are of having someone who believes in you, that you can trust and that sets you up for your adult life," she said.
She said the main qualities required for the role were "kindness, compassion and empathy."

🎬 Easter Cinema Screenings! 🍿
A huge thank you to all the children, families, foster carers and staff who joined us this week for our Easter cinema screenings of The Magic Faraway Tree. It was lovely to come together during the school holidays and enjoy a film as a fostering community.
Special thanks to Helen and Liz for creating the wonderful popcorn and sweetie cones for our Barrow screening, and to Carole for making sure families in Workington and Penrith had some delicious snacks to enjoy too. Your efforts helped make the experience extra special for everyone.

Across Cumbria, more young people aged 16-21 need a safe, supportive place to live as they take steps towards independence.

Homestays providers offer stability, encouragement and a home environment that helps young people build confidence and life skills. Many young people supported through Homestays are in or leaving care, at risk of homelessness, or are separated migrant children.

You don’t need previous fostering experience — just a caring approach and a willingness to support a young person at a crucial time.

Our fostering and kinship families had a fantastic time at the Easter Eggs-travaganza held at the Centre of Excellence in Cleator Moor last weekend! 🐣✨

Children, families, and staff all came together to enjoy a wide range of activities—from the rodeo sheep and surf simulator to a basketball challenge, Pet Encounters, LEGO, and crafts. There was truly something for everyone!

Refreshments were kindly provided by the Herdie Hut, and to top it all off, guests were delighted by special appearances from Star Wars favourites including Darth Vader, Chewbacca and more.

A huge thank you to Sellafield and sponsors UIE, Resolve Partners – COMS, React Engineering, Forth Engineering & Core Engineering, ISH, Bendalls and Co-Lab, for hosting such a wonderful event, and to all our staff and families who joined us and made the day so memorable 💛
