🔥🧯 ASK A FIRE TECH: How High Should Fire Extinguishers Be Mounted?

Did you know that having a fire extinguisher isn't enough? Where and how it's mounted matters!

Proper mounting helps ensure your fire extinguisher is visible, accessible, and ready when an emergency happens.

📏 According to NFPA 10, here are the general mounting height requirements:

✅ 40 lbs (18.14 kg) or less:
The top of the extinguisher must be no more than 5 feet (1.53 m) above the floor.

✅ More than 40 lbs:
The top of the extinguisher must be no more than 3½ feet (1.07 m) above the floor.

✅ Minimum Floor Clearance:
The bottom of the extinguisher must be at least 4 inches (102 mm) above the floor.

🚨 Fire Safety Tip: Proper mounting is just the beginning!

✔ Keep extinguishers visible and free from obstructions.
✔ Ensure extinguishers are securely mounted.
✔ Check that inspection and maintenance are up to date.
✔ Make sure employees know where extinguishers are located and how to use them safely.

It doesn’t take much for a candle flame to start a larger fire. Paper, curtains, bedding, and seasonal decorations can catch quickly.

If the fire is contained to the item that caught fire and you have the right extinguisher, you may be able to extinguish it before it spreads.

If the fire has already spread beyond that, the right move is to get out and call 911. Knowing which situation you are in is what makes early response possible and what helps protect property and save lives.
