✨ The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 Poppy Campaign is in full.

Up to November 11, residents are encouraged to wear a poppy and support veterans and their families through the annual Poppy Campaign.

This year, the first poppy was presented to Mayor Christa Lowry by Almonte Legion Branch 240 President John Dalgity and Poppy Campaign Chair and Second Vice President Kevin Cadman, marking the start of a campaign that raises vital funds to support veterans and their families.

🎃 Drop off your jack-o'-lantern throughout the day (tea lights provided)

🍞 Come for wood oven baked beans, fresh bread and sweet treats at 5 p.m. (cash only/by donation), then from dusk to 7 p.m., stroll the Alameda and enjoy the glow of hundreds of lit pumpkins.

All proceeds support the Mississippi Valley Conservation Foundation.

🚧 UPDATE: Preparation work continues next week for the sanitary sewer lining installation.

On Monday, November 2, Clean Water Works Inc. will be working near the intersection of Martin Street and Ottawa Street in the morning and on Martin Street North, between Teskey Street and Wilkinson Street in the afternoon.

⚠️ Traffic control measures will be in place with lane restrictions.

This rehabilitation work involves using Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) technology, a trenchless method that minimizes disruption to residents and roadways.

Residents in affected areas may notice crews at work and could experience temporary air pressure changes in household plumbing during sewer flushing activities.

🔹 Preparation work continues the week of November 2
🔹 Once it begins, sewer lining installation will take approximately two weeks to complete
🔹 The lining process takes about eight hours per area

The historic Five Span Bridge is reopening to traffic at 5 p.m. today!

Following the completion of Phase 2 of the rehabilitation project led by Lanark County, the iconic Pakenham landmark is ready to welcome residents and visitors.

Constructed in 1901, the bridge has undergone significant upgrades that preserve its historic character while improving safety and accessibility, including:
✅ Masonry and stone repairs
✅ Improved roadway surface and drainage
✅ Enhanced road approaches for smoother travel
✅ Upgraded lighting beneath the bridge

The new lighting not only improves visibility and safety, but also creates opportunities to mark holidays and days of awareness. To celebrate Halloween, the bridge will shine in orange, purple and green tonight and tomorrow night before returning to its standard warm white lighting.

Thank you to Lanark County and contractor BEI Bonnechere Excavating Inc. for their work in preserving this local landmark for generations to come.
