The Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) is a division of the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport. Its key role is to advise the Minister on the development of WA Government policies and programs to achieve the full potential of multiculturalism. OMI develops strategies that include everyone—culturally diverse communities, the wider community, business and industry groups, government and non-government agencies—to help develop a society that values and maximises the benefits of its cultural diversity. Its strategies assist organisations to develop policies, programs and services that are accessible and responsive to the needs of a diverse community. OMI provides information, advice, funding, training and support to communities and community organisations to help build strong communities that maintain and share their diverse cultures and participate actively in all aspects of Western Australian life. The Western Australian government proudly acknowledges and celebrates our cultural diversity as one of our State’s great strengths and actively plans for a future that captures its potential. On the road with OMI! ✈️

Our Community Engagement and Funding team has been travelling across WA this past weekend, visiting the people and places who all contribute to our state’s vibrant multicultural mosaic.

Cath and Rosemine, together with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, hosted two co-design workshops on Friday 16 and Sunday 18 October as part of WA Harmony Week 2027 preparations.

It was great to have 40 community members representing a diverse range of organisations help make the workshops a success.

From Saturday 17 to Monday 19 October, WeiQi and Cecile met with culturally and linguistically diverse community leaders, faith leaders, service providers and young people across Karratha, Dampier, Roebourne, Wickham, Point Samson and Cossack.

On their travels, the pair had the chance to see six Filipino basketball teams in action at the Karratha Leisureplex.

The OMI staff loved being able to meet people in the regions and hear about the important work being done throughout WA to develop social cohesion, combat racism and build a sense of belonging 🌟
