WE ARE SMHS | Meet Dr Piers Truter 👋
Working across both Rockingham General Hospital (RGH) and Fiona Stanley Hospital, Piers combines his role as Advanced Scope Physiotherapist with his work as a clinician researcher and Raine Medical Research Foundation Fellow.
From treating fractures and sprains in the emergency department (ED) to leading research that improves recovery outcomes, Piers is making a difference at every stage of the patient journey.
Driven by curiosity and a passion for improving care, he is always looking at what works well and where things can be done better.
One example is the ED Musculoskeletal Diversion Clinic at RGH, where he was joint project lead. The clinic redirects patients with uncomplicated musculoskeletal conditions from the ED waiting room to outpatient services, helping them access the right care while easing pressure on the ED. The clinic has supported more than 17,000 patients!
While balancing clinical practice and research keeps him busy, Piers is motivated by a strong sense of curiosity and a desire to improve outcomes for patients.
Fun fact: before studying physiotherapy, Piers represented Australia at three Men's Ultimate Frisbee world championships! 🥏👏
