Driving to Employment is one of WomenCAN Australia’s most innovative programs.

Thanks to Victorian Government funding from (Department of Transport and Planning), they are currently supporting 80 women from lower-income and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds in Bendigo and Shepparton to gain their probationary driver’s licence—unlocking new pathways to employment, independence, and community participation.

In regional areas, access to transport is more than a convenience—it’s a lifeline. For many women, especially those from diverse communities, the lack of a driver’s licence can be a significant barrier to finding and keeping a job, supporting their families, and engaging fully in community life.

Through this program, each participant will receive up to 14 paid driving lessons and mentor driving equipping them with approximately 40 hours of driving experience in varied conditions. This hands-on support is designed to build confidence, competence, and mobility.
