Goromonzi which is a peri urban district in Mashonaland East (Mash East) Province covers an area of 254 072 square kilometres (25 407 200 ha) has population of 223 879 (2012 National Census figures). There are 113 506 females and 110 373 males in the District. The percentage of females is 50, 7% while that of males is 49, 3%. The population density for Goromonzi district is 9 people per square kil

ometre. The average family size for Goromonzi is 4 people per household. To the north east Goromonzi borders with Shamva, Mazowe is to the North West and Bindura is to the north (Mashonaland Central), Murehwa is to the east of Goromonzi and Marondera district in Mash East is to the south of the district while Seke district, also in Mash East is also to the south west of Goromonzi. Harare is to the west of Goromonzi. It is in natural farming region ii and more than ¾ of the district`s population are subsistence farmers

Dear Valued Clients,

We wish to inform you that the 2026 Fire Season is officially underway (1 July – 30 November). Goromonzi Rural District Council urges all residents, farmers, and business operators to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to prevent veld fires. Remember, no fire is too small—even a cigarette stub can cause devastating losses to land, livelihoods, and wildlife.

✅ Construct fireguards at least 9 meters wide
✅ Avoid burning rubbish on windy days
✅ Never leave cooking or bush fires unattended
✅ Educate children and visitors on fire safety

Goromonzi RDC holds systems audit

Goromonzi Rural District Council (GRDC) held its systems audit on Monday 6th July 2026.

The systems audit which was chaired by the DDC for Marondera, Leonard Masawi was officially opened by the director for Local Government Services for Mashonaland East Province, Maxwell Mabhuro.

Mabhuro emphasised the need for the whole of government approach in order to contribute meaningfully to the Minimum Service Delivery (MSD) standards as espoused in the attendant Statutory Instrument (SI 172 of 2026). He implored
30% of the council budget should be made for salaries and administration cost while 70% of the same should be channeled towards the provision of quality services to the residents of Goromonzi. The council was called upon to develop Local development and Masterplans which they are supposed to follow and no sacred cows should be left. Councils should do Gender mainstreaming, cater for women, youths and people with disabilities in all its programmes and projects. All meetings have to be scheduled in time to ensure that services are provided. Councils should collect revenue and channel it accordingly towards the development of the district. The district is supposed to have plans. Councils were called upon to leverage Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). RDDC members were exhorted to have data base which should be used. Strategic, annual and five-year plans which should be reviewed quartely if need be.

The GRDC was recommended to strengthen its revenue collection by the end of September 2025 through offering incentives to rate payers which improved by 30%. The council bought a vehicle for revenue collection and the Loss Control office which have been operational.

By laws which were submitted for approval and gazetting by the parent Ministry of Local Government and Public works last year have taken long. The GRDC has engaged the District Planner, Noble Gakaka, who is taked with the development control and carry out enumeration exercise to establish the extent of illegal settlement in the district. It was observed that the problem of illegal settlements has reached alarming levels not only in Goromonzi district, but also countrywide. Village heads and headmen need refresher courses in order to nip the problem of illegal settlements.

Council has plans to regularise all irregular settlements in the district by 2027 having noted the level of resistance from the community.

The local authority is modenising its information management systems through the acquisition of the enabling gadgets.

All council employees and councillors signed anti-corruption integrity pledges with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) which is a continuous process. The same is now cascading the Integrated Results Based Management (IRBM) to ensure performance of the local authority against set targets.

Goromonzi RDC conducts 163rd Full Council

The Goromonzi Rural District Council (GRDC) held its 163rd full council at its Ruwa boardroom.

In his opening remarks, Council Chairperson, Cllr Aaron Golden Dr Shamhu, called on all councillors to put their hands on the deck, so that we all contribute to the development of Goromonzi.

He added that he welcomed constructive criticism and took a swipe at councillors and members of the Goromonzi Rural District Development Committee (RDDC) who criticise the council for underperforming in the 2025 perfomance ratings yet do not contribute anything and proffer solutions to improve service delivery in the district.

Mr Blessing Dube from the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) advised councillors to always get advice from technocrats in order to fight corruption. All councillors signed integrity integrity pledges against corruption last year.
