As the countdown to the Sanganai/Hlanganani Dzimbahwe Tourism Expo 2026 gathers momentum, 18 Tourism Agencies from Germany, France, Portugal and Spain are undertaking a 12-day familiarisation tour designed to deepen the European Tourism market’s understanding of Destination Zimbabwe. Moving through Harare, Great Zimbabwe, Gonarezhou, Matobo, Hwange and Victoria Falls, the tour is strategically exposing Tourism professionals to the depth and diversity of Zimbabwe’s Tourism product, enabling them to package and sell experiences across multiple destinations rather than concentrating demand around Victoria Falls.

The growing development of 9–21-day Zimbabwe packages in the European market signals increasing confidence in the destination and presents an opportunity to convert product exposure into longer stays, wider Tourist dispersal and increased Tourism receipts. By placing Zimbabwe’s Tourism experiences directly before professionals who influence consumer travel decisions, the initiative strengthens the country’s market positioning, promotes lesser-explored destinations and extends the economic benefits of Tourism to more communities. When Tourism professionals experience the destination first-hand, they gain the confidence to market Zimbabwe with greater depth, authenticity and conviction.

Tourism is at the core of Zimbabwe’s Economic transformation, creating opportunities for investment, employment and community empowerment, while the Media plays a critical role in telling the country’s Tourism story, showcasing its opportunities and positioning Destination Zimbabwe on the global Tourism map. Addressing the media during the press briefing of the World Tourism Month 2026 and the 19th edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Dzimbahwe Tourism Expo, Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi said strategic communication is critical to promoting Zimbabwe’s natural, cultural, historical and heritage assets, attracting tourists and investment, and expanding opportunities across the tourism value chain in line with NDS2 and Vision 2030. Running under this year’s UN Tourism theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” the September Tourism Month places Tourism at the centre of investment, innovation and destination promotion. The flagship Expo, set for 9–12 September 2026 in Masvingo, has attracted 392 exhibitors, representing 98% of the 400 target and a 14.3% increase from 343 last year, and 133 international buyers, up 49.4% from 89, with participation from key global and African markets. The programme also features the September Sports Tourism Carnival, Business Networking, Tourism Investment , Gastronomy, MICE, Cultural activities and Familirisation tours.

Masvingo is becoming a powerful expression of Zimbabwe’s Heritage-led Tourism and Devolution agenda, anchored by the Great Zimbabwe Monument while creating opportunities for communities and local enterprises. Through a Whole-of-Government approach, the Expo is driving a lasting infrastructure legacy through the refurbishment of Masvingo Airport, road improvements and enhanced facilities at the Gymkhana Events and Conference Centre. Minister Rwodzi commended the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, the Office of the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, other Government Departments , the City of Masvingo, Tourism stakeholders and the Media for supporting the Expo and promoting Destination Zimbabwe. She emphasised that effective communication is central to attracting Tourists, Investment and Markets. With preparations at the venue 90% complete and registrations continuing, Zimbabwe is using the Tourism Month to showcase a destination that is open for Tourism, open for Investment and ready to compete globally.

Running from 1–4 September 2026, the Carnival was officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Tongai Mnangagwa, alongside the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Masvingo Province Hon Ezra Chadzamira and the Deputy Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Hon Emily Jesaya, represented by Sports and Recreation Commission Director General Allen Mavhunga. Tertiary institutions from all ten provinces are competing in football, basketball, volleyball, cricket, rugby, netball, pool, tennis, golf and marathon activities, bringing athletes, officials and supporters into Masvingo.

More than competition, the Carnival is turning Sports Tourism into a platform for travel, destination discovery and economic opportunity, drawing tourists into Masvingo and creating business opportunities for Accommodation establishments, Restaurants, Tour Operators and other Tourism enterprises. The event also shines a spotlight on the province’s Tourism offering, anchored by the iconic Great Zimbabwe, while promoting Domestic Tourism and destination visibility. The sporting action continues through 4 September, followed by the Street Carnival on 5 September, before the main Sanganai/Hlanganani Dzimbahwe Tourism Expo takes place from 9–12 September at the Gymkhana Events and Conference Centre.

Hearty congratulations to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) for scooping the Best Tourism and Hospitality Exhibit – Service Excellence and Destination Branding Award at the ongoing Zimbabwe Agricultural Show 2026. The award reflects ZTA’s innovative approach to showcasing Destination Zimbabwe and highlighting the powerful nexus between Agriculture and Tourism under this year’s stand theme, “Experience Zimbabwe: Where Farming Meets Tourism.” The stand demonstrates how AgroTourism can drive Rural Tourism, Community Empowerment, value addition and inclusive growth, with the Farm-to-Market concept connecting local farmers to Tourism markets while enriching Tourism experiences through Gastronomy Tourism and locally produced Agri-based products, strengthening the Tourism value chain and promoting Zimbabwe’s rich Cultural Heritage. This is a clear demonstration of how the Tourism Cluster-Based Strategy is working and excelling by creating linkages across sectors and unlocking the full potential of Tourism as a catalyst for Inclusive Economic growth.
