Ahead of a potentially severe El Niño season, to***co growers are advised to prioritise early pest surveillance and strict field sanitation.
Aphids are a major concern, as they multiply faster in warm and dry conditions. This increases the transmission of viral diseases such as Potato Virus Y (PVY) and To***co Bushy Top Virus (TBTV). Growers should comply to the destruction of to***co stalks, and regularly monitor seedbeds for aphids.
For those who are still purchasing seed choose drought-tolerant and climate-resilient varieties such as KRK 71, KRK 75, KRK 26R, T78, T79, T80 and T81.

Day 5 of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show. Today, we had the honour of hosting His Excellency, President Cde Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa and the Vice President Cde Dr C.G.D.N Chiwengwa at the TIMB stand.

His Excellency and the Honourable Vice President commended the remarkable growth and resilience of Zimbabwe’s to***co industry, which has expanded significantly since 1980. This achievement is reflected in the historic 2026 marketing season, which recorded the highest to***co production volume of 358.5 million kilograms.
