Une délégation de haut niveau des Forces Armées dans la Zone Sud de l’Océan Indien (FAZSOI), conduite par le colonel Norbert Gaine, a effectué une mission au Zimbabwe les 24 et 25 août. La délégation des FAZSOI s’est entretenue avec le Général Emmanuel Matatu, Commandant des Forces de Défense du Zimbabwe. Les FAZSOI, dont la zone de responsabilité couvre l’Afrique australe et le sud de l’océan Indien, assurent des missions de souveraineté, de surveillance des espaces maritimes, de coopération militaire régionale et d’assistance aux populations en cas de crise.

A high-level delegation from the Armed Forces in the Southern Indian Ocean Zone (FAZSOI), led by Colonel Norbert Gaine, conducted a mission to Zimbabwe on August 24 and 25. The FAZSOI delegation met with General Emmanuel Matatu, Commander of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces. The FAZSOI, whose area of responsibility covers Southern Africa and the southern Indian Ocean, carries out missions related to sovereignty, maritime surveillance, regional military cooperation, and assistance to populations in times of crisis.

On 26 July, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially inscribed two sites nominated by France on the World Heritage List: “The Beaches of the D-Day Landings, Normandy, 1944” and the “Royal Capetian Fortresses of Languedoc”. France welcomes the inscription of these sites.

The inscription of the Beaches of the D-Day Landings in Normandy highlights the importance of a place for remembering the history of the Second World War, where our human sacrifice and that of our Allies freed France and Europe from the yoke of totalitarianism.

The inscription of the Royal Capetian Fortresses of Languedoc highlights the exceptional defensive architecture of this fortification system used in the 13th and 14th centuries. The fortresses are an example of environmentally-conscious architectural engineering, with construction models adapted to the topography of the terrain.

These two sites of remembrance have been added to the 54 French properties that have already been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, which continues to reflect the diversity of our history and our regions.
