📰 Japan's cooperation was featured in today's Zimbabwe Independent

Japan's cooperation to Zimbabwe was featured in an article in The Zimbabwe Independent. Under its grand aid with US$17.8 million, Japan has completed the improvement of a 7.8-kilometre section of the Makuti–Chirundu Highway. The project improves traffic safety, expands transportation logistics in the Southern African region, and promotes regional economic growth. This brings Japan’s grant support for the North-South Corridor (Makuti–Chirundu section) to US$38.8 million, building on the first phase completed between 2019 and 2021.

Japan remains committed to working with Zimbabwe as an equal partner to support infrastructure, agriculture, health, education and sustainable economic development.

９月４日、ジンバブエ・インディペンデント紙の記事で、日本の対ジンバブエ協力が取り上げられました。日本は、南部アフリカの物流・輸送におけるジンバブエの要路である「南北回廊北部区間道路改良プロジェクト」をはじめ、インフラ、農業、保健、教育等の分野で協力し、ジンバブエの持続可能な経済発展を支援しています。日本は、平和大陸アフリカの実現、アフリカと日本の成長の好循環、次世代の共創による誰もが豊かさを実感できる社会の実現を目指し、ジンバブエと協働していきます。

On 27 August, Ambassador MAEKAWA paid a courtesy call on Hon. Advocate Felix T Mhona, Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development. They exchanged views on Japan’s cooperation in transport and infrastructure development, including the rehabilitation of the northern part of the North-South Corridor, capacity development for One-Stop Border Posts, and the maintenance of roads. The Ambassador highlighted the strategic importance of the North-South Corridor as a key logistics artery connecting Southern Africa and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Zimbabwe’s efforts to enhance regional connectivity and integration.

The Ambassador also expressed his appreciation for the Minister’s continued leadership and guidance in Japan’s infrastructure cooperation. Both sides agreed to continue working closely to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and contribute to safe and efficient transportation in Zimbabwe and enhanced connectivity across Southern Africa.

8月27日、前川大使はフェリックス・モーナ運輸・インフラ開発大臣を表敬訪問しました。両者は、南北回廊北部区間の改修、ワンストップ・ボーダー・ポスト（OSBP）の能力強化、道路維持管理を含む、交通およびインフラ開発分野における日本の協力について意見交換を行いました。前川大使は、南部アフリカを結ぶ主要な物流動脈としての南北回廊の戦略的重要性を強調し、引き続き日本は域内の連結性と統合の強化に向けたジンバブエの取り組みを支援する考えを示しました。双方は、二国間協力を一層強化し、ジンバブエにおける安全で効率的な交通の実現および南部アフリカ全体の連結性向上に貢献するため、今後も緊密に連携していくことで一致しました。

On 3 September, Embassy staff attended the official launch of the Parliament of Zimbabwe's Committee for the Future at the new parliament building. The Committee is the first of its kind to be established in Africa and will strengthen Parliament's strategic foresight capacity for the next 50 years. Japan will work with Zimbabwe to co-create innovative solutions to various challenges, while leveraging Japan's technology and expertise including AI.

9月3日、ジンバブエ新国会議事堂で開催されたジンバブエ国会「未来委員会」の発足式に当館職員が出席しました。ジンバブエはアフリカ初の国として未来委員会を設置し、ジンバブエ国会は今後50年間を見据えて戦略的な計画立案力を強化していくことを目指しています。日本は、日本のAIを含む技術や専門知識を活用し、様々な課題に対する革新的な解決策をジンバブエと共に創出していきます。

On 31 August, Ambassador Maekawa paid a courtesy call on Hon. Mr. Edgar Moyo, Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on food assistance to Zimbabwe, support for refugees in the Tongogara Refugee Settlement and support for landmine survivors.

8月31日、前川大使はエドガー・モヨ公共サービス・労働・社会福祉大臣を表敬訪問しました。今回の会談の中で両者は、ジンバブエへの食糧援助やトンゴガラ難民定住地区における難民支援、地雷被害者への支援について意見交換を行いました。

On 26 August, Ambassador MAEKAWA Nobutaka attended the handover ceremony for medical waste incinerators utilizing Japan’s waste incineration technology, under the project “Medical Waste Management Project in Zimbabwe (through UNOPS).” This project is supported by US$ 2.2 million in funding from the Government and people of Japan, and is implemented in partnership with UNOPS under the leadership of the Republic of Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care.

These incinerators, through Japan’s cutting-edge technology, can reduce fuel consumption by utilizing plastics contained in medical waste as fuel, and, because processing is conducted at high temperatures with no smoke, the efficiency of medical waste treatment is greatly improved and the impact on the environment is reduced. Through the provision of these incinerators, it is expected that the proper management of medical waste generated at the hospitals will be promoted, thereby helping to prevent the spread of infections via medical waste, mitigate pollution of the surrounding environment, and protect the health of healthcare workers.

The handover ceremony was held at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare on behalf of the three hospitals(Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, United Bulawayo Hospitals, Masvingo Provincial Hospital), and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable Sleiman Timios Kwidini; Mr. Najibullah Safi, Deputy Country Representative of WHO Zimbabwe; Mr. Clement Mhlanga, Representative of UNOPS Zimbabwe; and Ambassador Mr. Nobutaka Maekawa, along with doctors and healthcare professionals.

　8月26日、前川信隆大使は、「ジンバブエにおける医療廃棄物管理プロジェクト（UNOPS連携）」の下で供与された、日本の廃棄物焼却技術を用いた医療用廃棄物焼却炉の引渡式に出席しました。このプロジェクトは、日本による220万米ドルの支援により、ジンバブエ保健・育児省及びUNOPSとの連携の下、実施されています。

　この焼却炉は、日本の最先端の技術により、医療廃棄物に含まれるプラスチックを燃料として活用することで燃料を節減でき、また、高温で処理することで煙が出ないことから医療廃棄物の処理効率が大幅に向上し、環境への影響も低減されます。この医療用焼却炉の供与を通じて、病院で発生する医療廃棄物の適切な管理が進められることにより、医療廃棄物を介した感染の拡大防止や周辺環境の汚染の防止、医療従事者の健康保護が期待されます。

　引渡式は、３病院（パリレニャトワ病院、ユナイテッド・ブラワヨ病院、マシンゴ州立病院）を代表して、ハラレにあるパリレニャトワ病院で開催され、前川大使のほか、スレイマン・ティミオス・クウィディニ保健・育児副大臣、ナジブラ・サフィWHOジンバブエ副代表、クレメント・ムランガUNOPSジンバブエ代表、医療関係者が参加しました。

🎌 Calling for Applications: Japan Visit Program for African Anime Creators! ✨

Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), as part of the Japan-Africa Youth Program promoted by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is inviting African anime creators to participate in a Professionals’ Japan Visit Program for Co-creation (Animation Production).

🎨 Up to 20 participants from African anime production companies will visit Japan for approximately 12 days to connect, exchange ideas, and build networks with Japanese anime creators and related organizations.

📢 Applications are now open for up to 10 companies/organizations. Each company may nominate up to two participants: one decision-maker and one creative professional.

💡Participation in the program and travel expenses are free of charge. Please note that participants are responsible for personal expenses, including transportation between their home and the airport and passport issuance fees. Please refer to the Application Guidelines for further details.
