Correctional Queens Football Club Focuses on Next Test After Matchday 8 Setback

Correctional Queens Football Club suffered their first home defeat of the season yesterday after losing 2-0 to Harare City Queens on Matchday 8, ending their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Harare City Queens took control inside the opening 20 minutes, capitalising on a goalkeeping error and a defensive lapse to establish a two-goal lead before the interval.

Correctional Queens improved after the break and created several scoring opportunities but failed to reduce the deficit as the visitors held on for victory.

Despite the loss, Correctional Queens remain fourth on the league table and stay in contention as the campaign continues.

The team now shifts focus to Matchday 9, when it travels to face league leaders Herentials Queens FC in a challenging away fixture.

Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Marks Cultural Day with Rehabilitation Showcase

Bulawayo Metropolitan Province of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) on Friday held a cultural celebrations programme at Khami Maximum Prison, bringing together officers, inmates, traditional leaders and local artistes to promote rehabilitation through culture.

Traditional leaders Chief Ndondo of Mbembesi and Chief Deli of Nyamandlovu attended the event and pledged to work with ZPCS to support inmate rehabilitation and reintegration programmes by encouraging community acceptance of former inmates.

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland North, Honourable Richard Moyo, represented by Director of Economic Affairs Mr Godfrey Mkwakwami, said the event showcased Zimbabwe's cultural heritage and the talents of inmates and officers through traditional performances. He also urged communities and officers to fight drug and substance abuse through education and awareness.

Deputy Officer Commanding Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Assistant Commissioner Priscilla Mtembo, said cultural programmes support rehabilitation by preserving identity, promoting social cohesion and helping inmates prepare for reintegration through skills and talent development.

Five stations under Bulawayo Metropolitan Province competed in traditional dance, drama and cookout contests, with Khami Maximum Prison winning the overall title, a floating trophy, cash prize and a goat.

The celebrations also featured performances by Drums of Peace, Amaqaqa and Khami School of Arts, with an interactive drumming session involving inmates and officers closing the programme.

Government Commends ZPCS Rehabilitation Initiatives at Business Expo

The Government has commended the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) for equipping inmates with vocational and agricultural skills to support their reintegration into society.

The commendation was made during the Manicaland Business Expo held in Mutare on 12 June 2026, where ZPCS exhibited arts and crafts and agricultural products produced by inmates from Mutare Remand Prison and Mutare Prison Farm.

Minister of Women's Affairs, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Honourable Monica Mutsvangwa, praised the Catalysing Economic Development through Informal Sector (CEDIS) programme for promoting inclusive economic empowerment across institutions in Zimbabwe.

Speaking at the CEDIS ceremony, Hon. Mutsvangwa said the programme provides institutions such as ZPCS with opportunities to access new markets, finance, business assets and business development services.

The Government also commended the Service for providing inmates with skills training in agriculture as part of rehabilitation and reintegration programmes.

Swedish Ambassador Per Lindgarde, who attended the event, said the success of public-private partnerships depends on government leadership, shared responsibility and collective commitment from stakeholders.

Ambassador Lindgärde said sustainable economic development is achieved through innovation and locally driven solutions, adding that the Swedish Government remains committed to strengthening cooperation with Zimbabwe.

CHIKURUBI MAXIMUM PRISON RECEIVES 500 JERSEYS FROM FAITH MINISTRY

Chikurubi Maximum Prison received 500 jerseys donated by Faith Ministry on 10 June 2026, in an initiative aimed at providing warmth to inmates during the winter season.

Faith Ministry provided the donation as part of the church's ongoing support to correctional institutions. The jerseys are expected to assist in cushioning inmates against cold weather conditions prevailing during winter.

ZPCS expressed appreciation for the support extended, noting that such contributions assist in meeting the welfare needs of inmates, particularly during periods of low temperatures.

The Service further indicated that support towards inmate welfare, including clothing and bedding materials such as blankets, remains important across correctional facilities. In view of the ongoing winter season, ZPCS noted that additional assistance of jerseys and blankets from well-wishers to any prison would further strengthen inmate welfare interventions in a practical and sustainable manner.

WHAWHA PRISON WORKSHOP DEVELOPS MAIZE SHELLER FOR GOKWE PRISON

Whawha Prison Workshop has developed a maize sheller manufactured by its own artisans, which is set for deployment at Gokwe Prison.

The innovation follows last year’s production of a grinding mill for stock feeds at the same workshop, as part of ongoing internal manufacturing initiatives within the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS).

The maize sheller is expected to be used at Gokwe Prison to process maize, with an anticipated output of about 100 tonnes. The facility recently held a field day for the second time during the current farming season.

The development forms part of efforts by ZPCS artisans to support agricultural productivity and improve processing capacity within correctional farming operations.

Whole-of-Government Approach strengthens collaboration with ZPCS

The Whole-of-Government Approach (WOGA) is strengthening collaboration between the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) and other Government institutions to advance offender rehabilitation and national development under the National Development Strategy 2.

In Manicaland Province, WOGA implementation is coordinated through the Provincial Development Committee chaired by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Advocate Misheck Mugadza, with ZPCS working alongside Government ministries, local authorities and other stakeholders.

The collaborative approach was demonstrated during a familiarisation tour by an Office of the President and Cabinet delegation to Rusape Remand Prison and Little Kraal Prison Farm. The delegation, led by Deputy Provincial Coordination Director Mr Past-Tense Tarondwa, was hosted by Manicaland Deputy Officer Commanding, Assistant Commissioner George Mutimbanyoka, on behalf of Commissioner Spetosomusa Chinobva.

At Little Kraal Prison Farm, the delegation inspected agricultural and vocational training projects, including to***co production, plumbing and motor mechanics, and noted the need to upgrade infrastructure, particularly accommodation and the sewer reticulation system.

Mr Tarondwa commended ZPCS for promoting rehabilitation and skills development despite limited resources and pledged to raise the challenges observed with relevant authorities.

“Our tour of the two Prisons has given us a wealth of knowledge, your challenges are now ours as well. We shall be reporting back to our principals and also work towards addressing the challenges we have observed,” he said.

Assistant Commissioner Mutimbanyoka said stakeholder engagement strengthens understanding of the correctional mandate and thanked the delegation for accepting the invitation.

“Our Prisons are in the community, for the community, as such Rehabilitation should remain a collaborative effort,” he said.
