Your opinion is very important to us. The town, Beitbridge, is named after Alfred Beit, a British citizen who found the De Beers diamond mining company. It is at the border between Zimbabwe and South Africa. Beitbridge Town is the southernmost town of the country and is in Matabeleland South Province. The name also refers to the Beitbridge Border Post, the busiest inland border post in Sub-Saharan

Africa; about three thousand (3000) people cross the border on a daily basis.The town, founded in 1929, was for many years the terminus of the railway fromPretoria, until a rail connection to Rutenga was built in 1974. Beitbridge Town Council was granted its town status in August 2005. Previously a Town Board under the Beitbridge Rural District Council administered the town; a Town Council was then established and came into being on the 1st of July 2007. The Town Council area is divided into six wards, each with an elected councillor. Its mandate as a local authority is to provide services to the community of Beitbridge. The total coverage of the town is 83 square kilometres and its population has doubled from 22 000 in 2002 population census to approximately 43 000 according 2012 population census figures. Due to the proximity of the town to South Africa, most people from the inland districts flock into Beitbridge to do trade and others finally settle in Beitbridge.

Beitbridge Municipality Boosts Operations with New Three-Vehicle Fleet

​In a major step toward enhancing municipal efficiency, the Municipality of Beitbridge today officially took delivery of three new service vehicles designed to improve operational capacity and response times across the town.
​Officiating at the handover ceremony, Deputy Mayor Cllr John Manatsa serving as Mayor for the day emphasized that the new fleet directly addresses the severe transport shortages that have historically hindered municipal operations.
​"For too long, our departments have been hamstrung by mobility challenges," stated Cllr Manatsa. "Our work teams took far too long to respond to urgent issues like burst pipes and sewer blockages. The arrival of these vehicles is both timely and essential."
​The newly acquired fleet will be deployed immediately to support three key operational units:
​Water and Sanitation: Expediting emergency repairs for sewer blockages and water pipe bursts.
​Stand Servicing: Accelerating land preparation and civil engineering works for local developments.
​Housing and Community Services: Streamlining daily field inspections and administrative community outreach.
​Local stakeholders commended the municipality, citing the procurement as visible evidence of prudent financial management and accountability. Representatives from the Beitbridge Residents Association applauded the effort, noting that ratepayer funds are actively being reinvested into service delivery. Concurrently, the Business Association welcomed the move while urging municipal staff to exercise diligent stewardship to ensure the long-term maintenance of the assets.
​Accepting the responsibility on behalf of the executive management, Beitbridge Town Clerk Mr. Loud Ramakgapola expressed gratitude to all stakeholders present and pledged that the investment would deliver swift, practical benefits.
​"These vehicles will significantly enhance our day-to-day service delivery," said Mr. Ramakgapola, reassuring residents that management will rigorously oversee the fleet's deployment to safeguard public infrastructure and uplift the community.

Over the past two days, the Municipality of Beitbridge councillors and executive management completed an intensive capacity-building training workshop focused on Council Committees Terms of Reference (ToR) and Council Committees Standing Orders/Instructions. The workshop was successfully delivered in strategic partnership with GIZ.
​This training was designed to strengthen institutional capacity, optimize committee efficiency, standardize governance practices, and ensure seamless alignment between policy direction and executive implementation.

​The effective governance of the Municipality relies heavily on the performance and oversight of its statutory committees. Clarifying and enforcing committee structures yields several key operational benefits:
​Role Clarity & Governance Efficiency: Re-aligning on Terms of Reference ensures that both councillors and executive officials operate within clear legal mandates, preventing overlap, ambiguity, or procedural errors during policy formulation.
​Standardized Decision-Making: Reinforcing Standing Orders establishes uniformity, procedural fairness, and compliance with statutory frameworks during committee deliberations and full council meetings.

​Enhanced Oversight & Executive Ex*****on: Equipping leadership with precise committee guidelines fosters constructive oversight, allowing management to execute council directives transparently and efficiently.
​Accelerated Service Delivery: Structured and legally sound committee processes directly translate to faster resolution turnaround times, benefiting key municipal service initiatives and infrastructure projects.
