SINDA SHINES AT PROVINCIAL CHOOVA COMPETITION AS MATILDAH MSONI TAKES TOP SPOT

Sinda Town Council has recorded an impressive performance at the Provincial Choova Competition held under the theme “2026 Choova for Road Safety, Peace, Unity and Well-being,” after its representatives put up a spirited performance in the cycling races.

Sinda was represented by three cyclists: Matildah Msoni, who competed in the 42-kilometre women’s race, and Chrispin Phiri and James Sakala, who competed in the 52-kilometre race.

It was a memorable outing for Sinda as Matildah Msoni emerged number one in the women’s 42-kilometre race, demonstrating remarkable endurance, determination and cycling skill. Her outstanding performance earned her the top prize of a motorcycle

Meanwhile, James Sakala also put Sinda on the honours list after finishing fifth in his race and walking away with a mattress as his prize.

The strong showing by the Sinda team demonstrates the district’s growing sporting talent and the important role sport can play in promoting physical well-being, unity and peaceful coexistence.

Beyond the competition, the Provincial Choova provides a platform for cyclists to promote road safety, particularly responsible road use and peaceful coexistence among cyclists, motorists and other road users.

Sinda Town Council congratulates Matildah Msoni, James Sakala and Christine Phiri for proudly representing the district at provincial level.

Sinda Town Council , through the Department of Health Services, has concluded the National Health Awareness Week with a health walk aimed at promoting physical activity and healthy living among residents.

The health walk, which started from Sinda Zonal Health Centre to Nthongole, brought together Council staff, health personnel and other stakeholders in promoting the importance of regular physical exercise in maintaining good health.

SINDA TOWN COUNCIL CONDUCTS NATIONAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK

Sinda Town Council, through the Department of Health Services, is conducting National Health Awareness Week from 31st August to 4th September 2026, aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and increasing access to essential health information and services among residents of Sinda District.

During the week, health personnel are reaching out to communities and various workplaces to provide a range of health services, including cervical cancer screening, health education, mental health counselling, HIV screening and testing, as well as sensitisation on the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension.

As part of the programme, a Health Walk will be held tomorrow, Friday, 4th September 2026, starting at 08:00 hours from Sinda Zonal Health Centre to Nthongole. The walk will bring together participants from different communities and offices to promote physical activity, healthy living and increased awareness of the importance of disease prevention and regular health checks.

Sinda Town Council therefore encourages residents, institutions and members of the public to participate in the Health Walk and take advantage of the screening, counselling and health education services being provided during the week.

SINDA TOWN COUNCIL WARNS PUBLIC AGAINST FRAUDULENT JOB ADVERTISEMENT AND RECRUITMENT SCAM

Sinda Town Council wishes to alert members of the public that a vacancy announcement circulating on WhatsApp and Facebook purporting to advertise the position of Office Assistant at Sinda Town Council is fake and has not been issued or authorised by the Council.

The Council has further received reports that an individual allegedly using a number registered under the name Charles Mukando – 0765521778 is circulating the fraudulent advertisement and contacting members of the public through WhatsApp and Facebook.

The individual is allegedly asking unsuspecting job seekers to send money in order to secure employment at Sinda Town Council.

Members of the public have reportedly been instructed to send money to 0974769291 as part of the purported recruitment process.
Sinda Town Council strongly distances itself from this advertisement and the individuals behind it. The Council does not charge applicants or request money through mobile money, WhatsApp, Facebook or any individual as a condition for securing employment.

The public is therefore advised not to send any money to the numbers mentioned above or to any person claiming that payment will guarantee employment with Sinda Town Council.

Members of the public are further reminded that official vacancies at Sinda Town Council are communicated through recognised and authorised channels, and recruitment is conducted in accordance with established Local Government procedures.

Anyone who has already sent money or has been approached by the individuals behind the fraudulent advertisement is encouraged to preserve all evidence, including WhatsApp conversations, screenshots, transaction records and phone numbers, and report the matter to the Zambia Police Service.

Sinda Town Council strongly condemns the unauthorised use of its name and identity to defraud unsuspecting members of the public and urges residents to verify suspicious employment information directly with the Council before taking any action.

SINDA TOWN COUNCIL AWARDS 11 CONTRACTS WORTH K5.59 MILLION UNDER 2026 CDF

Sinda Town Council has awarded 11 contracts under the 2026 Constituency Development Fund (CDF), valued at a combined K5,590,174.70, for the implementation of various development projects across the district.

The contracts cover infrastructure and service delivery interventions in the education, water and sanitation, and transport sectors, as well as the supply of furniture and equipment.

Speaking during the contract signing ceremony held at the New Civic Centre, Director of Human Resource and Administration Enest Kalimbanya, who spoke on behalf of Council Secretary Mary Chongo, urged contractors to employ local people wherever possible to enable communities to directly benefit from projects being implemented in their areas.

Mr Kalimbanya further urged contractors to ensure that local workers engaged on the projects are fairly and promptly paid for the services they provide.

He also stressed the need for contractors to deliver quality works within the agreed project timeframes and ensure that all works conform to the required specifications and standards.

Meanwhile, Director of Planning Anthony G. Phiri urged contractors to take environmental protection seriously during project implementation. He advised contractors to avoid unnecessary cutting down of trees and ensure that only vegetation directly affected by construction works is removed.

Mr Phiri further emphasised the need for contractors to rehabilitate disturbed areas upon completion of works and ensure that ditches, pits, trenches and other excavated areas are properly filled or secured to prevent accidents and environmental degradation.

He also called for the incorporation of HIV and AIDS awareness and prevention activities during project implementation, particularly among construction workers and surrounding communities.

PROJECTS AWARDED
1. Drilling and installation of Mark II hand pumps in Kapoche Constituency.

2. Completion of a 1x3 classroom block at Tikondane Primary School in Sinda Constituency.

3. Drilling and equipping of one borehole at Nkwechi in Kapoche Constituency.

4. Construction of Mwembezi Bridge in Sinda Constituency.

5. Construction of a water scheme at Sinda Local Court in Sinda Constituency.

6. Construction of a staff house at Tikondane Primary School in Sinda Constituency.

7. Supply, delivery and installation of bunk beds and mattresses at Mng’omba Day School.

8. Supply and delivery of equipment to Tilewe Health Post in Sinda Constituency.

9. Supply and delivery of equipment and furniture to Sinda Town Council.

10. Construction of a fence at the Civic Centre.

11. Construction of Chimusi Bridge in Sinda Constituency.
Also present during the contract signing ceremony were Director of Engineering Services Eng. John Banda, Chief Accountant Angela Chansa, Senior Legal Assistant Lufwendo Munyinda, and Assistant Procurement Officer Masautso Andrew Chiwala, among other Council officials.

Sinda Town Council remains committed to ensuring that CDF-funded projects are implemented to the required standards and contribute to improved service delivery and the socio-economic development of communities across the district.

STC DRILLS OVER 30 BOREHOLES ACROSS SINDA DISTRICT

Sinda Town Council has drilled over 30 boreholes in various parts of the district under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) as part of efforts to improve access to clean and safe drinking water.

The boreholes are expected to significantly improve access to reliable water supply for communities that previously faced challenges in accessing safe water, with some residents having to cover long distances in search of the commodity.

The initiative will also benefit livestock, as the boreholes have been equipped with animal drinking troughs to provide water for domestic animals. This is particularly important for rural communities where livestock plays an important role in people's livelihoods.

Among the areas that have benefited from the borehole programme are Kapungwe, Nchingilizya, Chamakuwi, Siwawa, Mwangaila, Sinda, Mnyamanzi, Chilongozi and Nyamasonkho wards.

The provision of boreholes is expected to reduce the distance residents travel to access water and contribute to improved sanitation, hygiene and the general well-being of communities.
