HERBERT MAPANI WINS NAMWALA WEST

NAMWALA, 16 August 2026 – United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Herbert Moono Mapani has been duly elected Member of Parliament for Namwala West Constituency in Namwala District, Southern Province.

Namwala West Returning Officer, Kewewe Chishiko, declared Mr. Mapani duly elected at approximately 05:50 hours on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at the Namwala West Constituency Totalling Centre at Namwala Secondary School.

Mr. Mapani secured 22,092 votes to win the parliamentary seat. His closest rival, independent candidate Lawrence Chiinda, polled 1,759 votes, while National Restoration United Party (NRUP) candidate Mary Sakala obtained 550 votes.

A total of 24,787 votes were cast, with 384 ballot papers rejected as invalid.

Mr. Mapani previously served as Member of Parliament for the former Namwala Constituency before the constituency was delimited into Namwala East and Namwala West ahead of the 2026 General Election.

His election to Namwala West therefore marks his return to Parliament, where he will now represent the newly established constituency.

OLIVIA CHIBOOLA WINS NAMWALA EAST

NAMWALA, 16 August 2026 – United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Olivia Clara Chiboola has been duly elected Member of Parliament for Namwala East Constituency in Namwala District, Southern Province.

Namwala East Returning Officer, Portia Nakaanda, declared Ms. Chiboola duly elected at approximately 16:15 hours on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at the Namwala East Constituency Totalling Centre at Niko Girls Technical School.

Ms. Chiboola secured 13,918 votes, defeating her only rival, independent candidate Silent Muda Hapompwe, who obtained 4,411 votes.

A total of 18,529 votes were cast, with 190 ballot papers rejected as invalid.

Namwala East Constituency has 47 polling stations, eight wards and 26,326 registered voters.

The election marks Ms. Chiboola's successful election to Parliament, where she will represent the people of Namwala East Constituency in the National Assembly.

ABEL MOONGA RE-ELECTED NAMWALA COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON

NAMWALA, 16 August 2026 – United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Abel Moonga has been re-elected as Chairperson of Namwala Town Council after defeating independent candidate Athania Shanungu in the 2026 General Election.

Namwala District Electoral Officer, Fred Munongo, declared Mr. Moonga duly elected at 18:15 hours on Saturday, 15 August 2026, after he secured 37,457 votes against Mr. Shanungu's 5,139 votes.
A total of 43,354 votes were cast, with 772 ballot papers rejected as invalid.

Speaking shortly after his declaration, Mr. Moonga expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for adopting him as the UPND candidate and thanked the people of Namwala for turning out in large numbers to vote for him.

He pledged to continue supporting the President and serving the people of Namwala in his capacity as Council Chairperson.
Namwala District has 108 polling stations across Namwala East and Namwala West constituencies.
