CHIENGE FARMERS BEGIN ACCESSING FISP INPUTS AHEAD OF 2026/2027 FARMING SEASON

Farmers in Chienge District have started accessing inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP), as Government steps up efforts to ensure timely access to farming inputs ahead of the 2026/2027 farming season.

The district has been allocated 4,000 FISP beneficiaries, with 2,505 farmers already issued with Authority to Deposit (ATD). Of these, 2,328 have received their deposits, while 2,161 farmers are now redeemable and can access inputs from participating agro-dealers.

So far, 167 farmers have redeemed their inputs, with 164 completing the process and three partially redeeming their allocations. Five agro-dealers are currently active in the district.

Assistant District Marketing Development Officer Patricia Chishimba has urged beneficiaries to use the inputs productively and for their intended purpose to boost agricultural production, strengthen household livelihoods and contribute to national food security.

Ms Chishimba encouraged farmers yet to redeem their inputs to remain patient and follow guidance from the Ministry of Agriculture, assuring them of continued support as Government works with stakeholders to make the 2026/2027 farming season a success.

“Together, we can grow more and achieve more,” she said.

Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries in Chifunabuli District, Luapula Province, have praised Government for implementing the programme, saying it has significantly improved their livelihoods.

84-year-old John Mutale says the support has enabled him to build a modern house and invest in livestock, including cattle and goats, giving him greater dignity and economic security.

OVER 13,000 CHIENGE SOCIAL CASH TRANSFER BENEFICIARIES PAID

Over 13,000 Social Cash Transfer (SCT) beneficiaries in Chienge District have received their July/August 2026 payments, reaffirming Government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable households.

A total of 13,289 out of 14,848 beneficiaries have so far received their payments through Airtel, Zamtel and MTN mobile money platforms.

Chienge District Social Welfare Officer Edmond Kampape says the payment window remains open for beneficiaries whose transactions have failed, mainly due to blocked SIM cards or incorrect details captured in the Zambia Integrated Social Protection Information System (ZIPS).

Mr Kampape has urged affected beneficiaries to visit the District Social Welfare Office with their correct names, NRC and phone numbers to facilitate payment.

He has also reminded beneficiaries that the payments are being made electronically through registered mobile phones, with no cash payments at payment points.

CHIENGE GETS K1.2 MILLION SOLAR STREET LIGHT PROJECT

Chienge Town Council has awarded a K1.195 million contract for the installation of 40 automated solar-powered street lights under the 2026 Road Grant.

The project, to be undertaken by Overhill Construction and Logistics Limited, will illuminate the road from Chienge District Hospital to the water treatment plant, improving road safety and security, particularly for residents seeking emergency medical services at night.

Director of Engineering Bernard Mashapi says the contractor is expected to mobilise within two weeks, with works targeted for completion within two to three months.

The New Dawn Government continues to support infrastructure development that improves the safety and quality of life of communities across Luapula Province.

Today, before Almighty God and the people of Zambia, we humbly took the oath of office to serve our Republic for a second term.

We receive this responsibility with gratitude and a clear understanding that leadership is not a prize, but a sacred duty to serve.

To those who voted for us, we thank you for your trust and confidence. To those who did not vote for us, we respect your democratic choice. We will serve you on an equal basis, without discrimination, because you are our fellow citizens and an equal part of this great Republic.

We are all Zambians, entitled to the same dignity, opportunities and service from our Government.

Our political choices may differ, but our country and our destiny are one. The elections are behind us; the work of building Zambia continues.

Our first term was about restoring stability and laying the foundation. The next chapter is about growing our economy, creating jobs and opportunities, strengthening our communities and ensuring that progress reaches every household.

But Government cannot build Zambia alone. Every citizen has a role. We must work hard and smart, produce more of what we consume, grow what we export, support enterprise and investment, and build a culture of productivity and self-reliance. PRESIDENT HICHILEMA UNVEILS GROW ZAMBIA AGENDA, CALLS FOR UNITY AND HARD WORK

President Hakainde Hichilema has unveiled the Grow Zambia Agenda, outlining an ambitious development programme aimed at creating jobs, wealth and shared prosperity for Zambians over the next five years.

Speaking shortly after being sworn in alongside Vice President Dr W.K. Mutale-Nalumango at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka today, President Hichilema said the new term will focus on accelerating economic growth through agriculture, mining, tourism, energy, infrastructure and industrialisation.

The President said economic growth must be felt in people's homes through employment opportunities for young people, reliable markets for farmers and expanded opportunities for businesses.

For rural communities such as those in Luapula Province, the agenda presents renewed opportunities in agriculture, energy, tourism and other productive sectors, while Government continues investing in free education, healthcare, increased Constituency Development Fund and social protection programmes.

President Hichilema further called on Zambians to put aside political differences and work together, stressing that elections should not permanently divide the country.

He said development requires unity, hard work and a shared commitment from all citizens regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, religion or social status.

The President has since pledged to lead with integrity and accountability while ensuring that Government programmes continue reaching communities across the country.

The message is clear: the elections are over, but the work of building a prosperous Zambia continues.
