September book review highlights.
Thanks to Bloomers Hub Zambia for hosting us with the utmost hospitality.
Our last Sunday of the month was another beautiful reminder that book club is so much more than just reading books. We came together to read, laugh, reflect, connect and create memories around A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Before getting into the heart of the book, we loosened up with a few icebreakers. There were laughs, unexpected answers and plenty of moments that reminded us how much fun it is simply being in a room full of people who love books.
Then came the quiz! We put our memories to the test and discovered just how closely we had been paying attention while reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. Some questions were easy… and some definitely had us questioning our reading abilities!
And of course, we got into the conversations we had all been waiting for. We unpacked the characters, the relationships, the choices and the many difficult moments that made this book such an emotional read.
A Thousand Splendid Suns was not an easy book to read. It carried themes of love, loss, friendship, motherhood, resilience and survival. There were moments that left us heartbroken, moments that made us angry, and moments that reminded us of the strength people can find even in the hardest circumstances.
What made the discussion even more meaningful was how the book connected with our own lives. Members shared personal experiences, reflections and lessons that went beyond the pages. Sometimes, the best book discussions are the ones that make you look inward.
Everyone came with their own interpretation of the story, and that’s one of our favourite things about book club. We may read the same book, but we don’t always experience it the same way. Different perspectives made the conversation richer and more meaningful.
Between the discussions, laughter and little conversations in between, we had the chance to interact and network with one another. Because somewhere along the way, this stopped being just a place where we read books and became a community of people who genuinely enjoy connecting.
…and stayed for the people. 🤍 Every meeting gives us anoth
