PACRA TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION WITH BAZ

The Bankers Association of Zambia (BAZ) and the Patents And Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) are working on strengthening their collaboration to enhance operations of the two institutions.

The collaboration between the two institutions relate to pertinent matters such as corporate transparency, beneficial ownership, financial crime collaboration, regtech and Application Programming Interface (API’s), challenges in business formalisation (SME).

led by its Chairperson Mr. Mwindwa Siakalima on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on PACRA Registrar and CEO Mr. Benson Mpalo to deliberate the collaboration which is key in driving Zambia's economic development agenda.

The meeting also delved into the priorities and key developments of the Banking Sector.

The two parties further engaged in issues of strategic priorities and industry updates such as the implementation of the Companies (Amendment) Act 2025, 2027 Mutual evaluation preparation update, key legislative and policy reforms and ease of doing business initiatives among others.

ARIPO@50: Back to where it started from

The African Regional Intellectual Property Organization - ARIPO will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee in the Zambian capital, Lusaka on December 9, 2026.

Over 700 delegates from the Intellectual Property community across ARIPO’s 22 members states and beyond will return to the origin of its regional system to honor five decades of achievement and to chart the next fifty years.

The Mulungushi International Conference Center (MICC) being host of the IP Conference to precede the celebrations from 7-9th December, 2026 carries profound historical significance having hosted the signing of the Lusaka Agreement, a foundational treaty adopted 50 years ago on December 9, 1976, which gave birth to ARIPO.

From December 3-5, 2026, CEOs of IP offices from ARIPO members states and other stakeholders will hold an ARIPO Administrative Council at Lusaka’s Intercontinental Hotel to deliberate key issues around IP.

Patents And Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) Registrar and CEO Mr. Benson Mpalo confers with Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) Acting CEO Ms. Abigail Shansonga during the just ended 98th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show on matters relating to the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) 50th Anniversary celebrations slated for Lusaka in December.

About 700 delegates from across the world will meet in Lusaka in December to celebrate ARIPO’s Jubilee Anniversary following its founding on 9th December, 1976 at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka.

2026 AGRIC SHOW REFLECTIONS

The 2026 Zambia Agricultural and Commercial show brought morethan just an opportunity for the Patents And Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) to engage the masses on our services and on the spot registration of Businesses, we used it for stakeholder engagement on various issues.

With Zambia set to host celebrations for ARIPO’s Golden Jubilee in December, PACRA Deputy Registrar – Intellectual Property Mr. Chewe Chilufya engaged ZSIC- General Insurance Management Team led by the company’s Director Finance and Administration Mr. Sydney Chikuta over potential partnerships and sponsorships of some elements in the ARIPO @ 50 celebrations.

The meeting also delved into other areas that the two institutions can forge ties in.
