π¨ WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR PARLIAMENT? π¨
We are watching, with growing concern, as some of our leaders in Parliament choose silence over responsibility. Instead of defending the people, they appear more focused on serving their own interests.
How do you allow such archaic and oppressive laws to pass without proper scrutiny? Without debate? Without standing up for the very citizens who put you in office?
The proposed Public Gathering Bill is even more restrictive than the current Public Order Act. It threatens to shrink the democratic space and weaken our fundamental freedoms β especially the right to assemble and be heard.
What makes this even more disappointing is that we have seen courage before.
During their time in opposition, members of the United Party for National Development stood firm and resisted unjust legislation like Bill 10. They debated. They challenged. They represented the people.
So what has changed?
Leadership is not about comfort β it is about courage. It is about standing up, even when it is inconvenient, to defend democracy and protect citizensβ rights.
ππΎ We also take this moment to commend those who have chosen to stand with the people, even under very difficult circumstances Hon Binwell Mpundu NKANA MP,Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya, MP, and Stephen Kampyongo. Your courage and commitment to speaking out has not gone unnoticed.
π’ We demand accountability.
π’ We demand scrutiny.
π’ We demand leadership that puts the people first.
Zambia deserves better.
