ZABS, IMS EXCHANGE NOTES ON MINING STANDARDISATION
The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) this week held an engagement with the Belt and Road International Mining Standardisation Committee (IMS) to explore avenues of collaboration in advancing mining standards.
The meeting, led by ZABS Director of Standards and Certification, Mrs. Belinda Soko Kancheya and IMS Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Ma Yatau, centered on establishing a ZambiaโChina Mining Standardisation Committee working group, an initiative aimed at enhancing the development, exchange and sharing of mining standards between the two institutions.
Both parties emphasized the importance of cooperation in leveraging existing expertise through professional technical support, knowledge-sharing initiatives, cutting-edge research and resource pooling. Such collaboration is expected to accelerate the adoption of robust mining standards that safeguard industry practices and promote sustainable growth.
Discussions focused on the joint application for international standards under ISO/TC 82 Mining, Nomination of Zambian experts and institutions by ZABS to serve as members of the Belt & Road International Mining Standardisation Committee and recommendation of experts to participate in the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) working groups.
This engagement marks a significant step toward deepening existing ZambiaโChina cooperation in mining standardisation, positioning both countries to benefit from shared expertise and to contribute meaningfully to the international mining standards landscape.
